A coworker drives to work in a 1200cc Harley Davidson when the weather is not too bad. Several times he has told me it has more power in cold weather. This does not make sense to me. Anyone able to explain?

View Full Version : Strange Thing: Motorcycles More Powerful in Cold Weather? Chuck 02-16-2007, 09:39 AM A coworker drives to work in a 1200cc Harley Davidson when the weather is not too bad. Several times he has told me it has more power in cold weather. This does not make sense to me. Anyone able to explain? Sledge 02-16-2007, 11:02 AM All engines make more power in cold weather. Colder air = higher density = more air in cylinder for combustion. Chuck 02-16-2007, 11:36 AM What makes this sound strange is we have been griefing about the FE hits during the winter. Just trying to sort this out. PaleMelanesian 02-16-2007, 11:43 AM Well... Since the air is denser and more goes in, the ECU has to add more fuel to keep the mix right. It gives more power that way, but uses more fuel at the same time. vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
