View Full Version : Week of July 19th - July 25th 2010 (Nat Avg $2.74)
Right Lane Cruiser 07-19-2010, 06:25 AM It's a new week and a new chance to laugh at the EPA ratings. :D
60F, no wind, clear:
119.3mpg for 22.4mi (Home to work)
The tank is down to 122.4mpg over 24.9mi
epurvee 07-19-2010, 07:55 AM This weekend had a national guard drill where I got the following:
29.3 MPG / 75.3 Miles home to drill
29.8 MPG / 68.2 Miles drill to home
For the distance, that was the best trip I've had in the van so far. This mornings commute was decent.
31.2 MPG / 11.0 Miles home to work
PaleMelanesian 07-19-2010, 08:29 AM The tank is down to 122.4mpg over 24.9mi
Very few have ever said those words.
PaleMelanesian 07-19-2010, 08:30 AM Thanks to a schedule change, I no longer have regular driving to do on Saturday.
89.7 mpg home Friday night.
94.6 to work this morning.
The tank is up to 83.1 / 297 miles and almost down to F.
Right Lane Cruiser 07-19-2010, 03:17 PM Man, that commute wasn't fun at all. :( Wet roads, really heavy traffic, construction right on the other side of curves it is not possible to see around... :p
75F, 2mph headwind from the NE, overcast:
114.4mpg for 22.5mi (Work to home)
The tank is now down to 118.4mpg over 47.4mi
Day Total: 116.7mpg over 44.9mi
On a positive note, the LFE just ticked up to 92.1mpg :)
Die2self 07-19-2010, 06:24 PM home>work
- 24.2 / 13.3 (77F S@5)
work>home
- 24.0 / 13.2 (92 (H.I. 102F) SW@10)
daily avg = 24.1 / 26.5 miles
tank is still over F with 30.5 miles
ETE is 536 miles (~24.4)
Right Lane Cruiser 07-20-2010, 06:20 AM Nothing for me just yet this morning. I've got an offsite meeting in a few hours -- I've never driven the route before so it should be interesting.
PaleMelanesian 07-20-2010, 08:20 AM 82.5 home last night.
This morning was a special drive. I had to loop the parking lot and park on the downhill end to get it, but...
100 mpg / 11 miles! :D
The tank is up to 83.3 / 330 miles. I hit F at 320, or 20 miles past last tank. ;)
lxmike 07-20-2010, 08:27 AM I'm still on vacation! :D
Andrew, You trying for 1200 mile this tank?;):D
Right Lane Cruiser 07-20-2010, 12:47 PM Nice job, Andrew!!
I had all sorts of construction, gravel, and reroutes with obnoxious traffic to deal with (always fun on an unfamiliar route), but it was a good meeting.
73F down, 4mph headwind from the SW, overcast,
77F back, 5mph headwind from the WNW, sunny:
99.6mpg for 14.8mi (Home to offsite)
101.9mpg for 14.9mi (Offsite to home)
The tank is all the way down to 110.9mpg over 77.3mi now. Ouch.
Day Total: 100.8mpg over 29.8mi
Die2self 07-20-2010, 07:24 PM home>work
- 26.1 / 13.3 miles (78F S@10)
work>home
- 24.3 / 13.1 miles (92F (Heat index 102) SW@16 mostly head wind)
daily avg - 25.2 / 26.4 miles
tank is at 56.9 miles and at the Full mark
ETE is up to 544 miles and ~ 24.7 MPG
Right Lane Cruiser 07-21-2010, 06:10 AM 64F, 3mph crosswind from the WNW, clear:
115.8mpg for 22.4mi (Home to work)
The tank is back up to 111.8mpg over 99.7mi
PaleMelanesian 07-21-2010, 08:09 AM 82.5 / 10.6 home last night - I paid a bit for my extended coast in the morning. I had to power uphill with a cold engine, instead of starting on top of the hill like usual. Probably 1 mpg loss.
93.1 / 10.6 this morning
The tank is up to 83.6 / 350 miles and just below F.
Math:
93 this morning, 100 yesterday.
0.114 gallons vs 0.106 gallons.
0.008 gallons difference.
At my target 1.8 gph pulse rate, that's worth 16 seconds of pulse.
Since I do probably 50 p&g cycles on my drive, that's only 1/3 second difference per pulse.
.. or maybe 1 red light.
epurvee 07-21-2010, 09:11 AM First commute in the new metro with the SGII installed, but I dont' know if it's properly configured yet as I had very good numbers this morning without using any advanced techniques (P&G or FAS). I just used 5th gear and kept the speed at 45 and coasted down the hills I normally coast on with ICE-on. Had a decent commute home.
60.3 MPG / 11.0 Miles home to work
53.2 MPG / 13.0 Miles work to home
Right Lane Cruiser 07-21-2010, 09:19 AM Congrats on the new car! :woot:
Right Lane Cruiser 07-21-2010, 02:59 PM This afternoon traffic glut is really starting to get annoying.
82F, 6mph cross/headwind from the WSW, sunny:
115.6mpg for 22.5mi (Work to home)
The tank is back up to 112.5mpg over 122.3mi
Day Total: 115.6mpg over 45.0mi
LinuxGold 07-21-2010, 04:43 PM On vacation this week.
Didn't attend CleanMPG as often while on vacation.
So far did 48.603 mpg / 163.6 miles (142.95% of EPA)
Brake line broke, sent for repairs.
Using Toyota Camry -- for Geocaching, MPG usage dropped BIG time, but wife did well, 24 MPG average 126.315% of EPA)
=)
Die2self 07-21-2010, 08:51 PM home>work
- 25.3 / 13.4 miles (78F S@9)
work>home
- 24.0 / 13.2 miles (90F (H.I. = 101) S@9)
daily avg = 24.7 / 26.6 miles
Tank is just under F with 83.5 miles
ETE is 543 miles ~ 24.7MPG
Right Lane Cruiser 07-22-2010, 06:05 AM So, what does rain and a headwind do to the numbers from a first gen Insight MT? Well, in spite of warmer weather and roughly comparable traffic levels I was beat down to 10.8mpg lower than yesterday's commute. :p
71F, 8mph headwind from the ESE, raining:
105.0mpg for 22.6mi (Home to work... looks longer because I had to keep using the FAS button the whole trip)
The tank is back down to 111.3mpg for 145.0mi
The commute home is likely to be worse yet as we are supposed to get thunderstorms this afternoon. :p
PaleMelanesian 07-22-2010, 08:24 AM 84.0 home last night
96.5 this morning. Until this week, that would have been a record. :D
The tank is up to 83.9 mpg / 371 miles now.
epurvee 07-22-2010, 09:08 AM I changed the spark plugs in the metro last night. I am surprised those things were firing at all considering that they were rusted and the there wasn't much left of the element. Had a good commute this morning. Not too bad on my way home.
62.3 MPG / 11.0 Miles home to work
53.8 MPG / 13.0 Miles work to home
Die2self 07-22-2010, 05:52 PM home>work
- 25.1 / 13.3 miles (75F S@10)
work>home
- 23.6 / 13.2 miles (91F SW@14 gusting to 23)
daily avg - 24.4 / 26.5 miles
tank is at 7/8 with 110.0 miles traveled
ETE is down to 541 miles ~24.6 MPG
Right Lane Cruiser 07-22-2010, 09:49 PM I had to leave work early today because my daughter wasn't feeling well -- as a result the thunderstorms hadn't started yet and the roads though still damp had a little less traffic to deal with.
71F, 13mph cross/tailwind from the E, overcast:
117.2mpg for 22.6mi (Work to home)
Then I had to run to Church and back this evening. I really wish the start time didn't require me to drive right through the middle of rush hour every time. :(
74F down, 5mph head/crosswind from the E, overcast,
70F back, 7mph cross/tailwind from the E, overcast:
100.1mpg for 18.1mi (Home to Church)
108.5mpg for 18.3mi (Church to home)
The tank is now down to 110.4mpg over 204.1mi
Day Total: 107.6mpg for 81.7mi
Right Lane Cruiser 07-23-2010, 06:18 AM A better run than yesterday morning but worse than usual due to having to keep the headlights on longer. I'm starting to see if I can get a compromise by pulsing the DC-DC converter on and off during a FAS instead of just letting the HV pack peg it at 13.6V the entire time, then bump starting when I can to conserve more SoC. Even though it requires a bit more attention I think there is some merit in this approach. We'll see.
68F, 3mph cross/headwind from the SSW, overcast:
111.8mpg for 22.5mi (Home to work)
The tank is back up to 110.6mpg over 226.7mi
epurvee 07-23-2010, 07:54 AM Had a good commute to work. Now that I've got the battery connectors replaced I am going to start experimenting with FAS. I'm thinking I should be able to see the 80's if not higher if I get proficient at it.
63.6 MPG / 11.0 Miles home to work
56.3 MPG / 13.0 Miles work to home
PaleMelanesian 07-23-2010, 08:03 AM That's some kind of turnaround, epurvee! Very nice.
I had:
84.9 / 10.8 home
90.5 / 9.3 to music practice after dinner
83.2 / 9.3 back home, late
90.8 / 10.7 to work this morning
The tank is up to 84.1 / 422 miles. Highest I've ever seen a mid-tank average.
epurvee 07-23-2010, 01:46 PM Thanks PaleMelanesian,
But my readings on the sgii haven't had the sanity check of a tank of gas yet to verify how correct the numbers are, so everything I post on the Metro right now needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
Right Lane Cruiser 07-23-2010, 03:42 PM Extra heavy traffic today (looked like 4th of July weekend all over again!) and quite warm (humid)... but I've got some celebrating to do so I don't mind as much as I usually would. :)
78F, 8mph headwind from the WNW, sunny:
105.5mpg for 22.8mi (Work to home)
The tank is back down to 110.2mpg over 249.5mi
Day Total: 108.3mpg over 45.3mi
Die2self 07-24-2010, 04:07 PM yesterdays number
home>work
- 27.1 / 13.3 miles (78F S@10)
work>home (nasty head wind and traffic)
- 23.3 / 13.2 miles (91F SW15 gusting to 25)
daily avg = 25.2 / 26.5 miles
tank is down to just above 3/4 with 136.5 miles (~24.7MPG)
weekly avg = 24.7 / 132.5 miles
warthog1984 07-24-2010, 10:07 PM Just got back from Wayne's house & riding with him to wring out the WR250X.
In addition to 66miles I will calc later, the Bandit put 129.5 miles under its treads and burned 2.2 gals for a good to excellent 58.8MPG during our dual ride to Milwaukee.
Sorry Wayne.
Skwyre7 07-26-2010, 07:18 AM Firstly, I know I haven't posted in a while. I'm still HMing, of course.
Secondly, keep up with the Twitter. :)
Thirdly, a couple years ago there was a thread about when you would not HM. I believe Chuck started it. Well, yesterday I did not HM. My son fell and got a cut on the bridge of his nose that required stitches. He's doing fine now. But I definitely did not HM on the way to the ER (except for being aware of all the other traffic and making sure to signal to let other drivers know my future lane changes). It's been a long time since I've driven that fast. I hope I don't have to do that again for a long time.
Fourthly, I've set a couple records this summer. Although lately my numbers have been down. When it's 100+ outside, I feel the use of AC is worthwhile. Although I do pulse it. The one benefit, my car warms up really fast! (I miss winter.)
That is all. Hope everyone is well. Don't forget me if anything HM related happens in the mid-Atlantic region. If I'm available, I'd love to join.
