Wow, It's amazing what some warm temps and a little practice has done for my numbers lately.:) I had 111.6 over 20.9 miles today taking my wife to work and coming home. I'm off this week for summer shutdown. The temperature was 72F and the wind was S@ <5 mph with 88% humidity.

Tuesday: Pretty much the best commute I have had so far

33.4 MPG / 11.0 Miles home to work
29.8 MPG / 13.0 Miles work to home

Today:

I guess I should never complain about anything > 30 MPG in this thing but two traffic lights that I normally make which are both on the long down hills I glide down killed what could have been great numbers.

30.9 MPG / 11.0 Miles home to work
28.9 MPG / 13.0 Miles work to home

I ran out of gas. :D I planned it, and had my 2 gallon gas can in the back. I added that, then drove to the station for the rest of the fill. Filled the 2 gallons first, then the rest of my tank to topoff.

1114.0 miles / 13.84 gallons = 80.5 mpg :D :woot:
If I'm not mistaken, that's the longest gas-powered tank. (non hybrid, non diesel)

The new tank sits at 84.8 mpg / 10.3 miles. It's E10 gas :(, unlike the tank above. We'll see how that affects the numbers.

Thanks, Sean.

I played games for that last 0.4 miles. There's a steep hill that it would not climb. I got halfway up, then coasted backwards down and partway up the previous hill. Fired it up and got a downhill running start to climb again as high as I could. Then rolled back again, then rolled forward to a stop.

I really really dislike my car when it's running low. Pulse and glide, bump-start, stumble sputter sputter sputter roar! Then pulse again. Stumble and sputter on uphills as well. Unless I have a good chance of beating 1114, I will not be running it dry again.

My Elantra and the Insight both got a little squirrelly at the limits, too... but neither gave issues firing up.

I'm unlikely to try to top your record as I just don't want to spend that much gas for the distance when my Insight will do it on so much less.

Well done and well deserved congratulations!

;) I hoped you would say that about driving the Elantra. :D

One more thing. I'm not sweating it, but I put 2.1 gallons (0.1 extra) into my gas can before I noticed and stopped the pump. That is included in my numbers posted.

Bad news on the Insight.:( I was on the way to pick up my wife and I started hearing a really bad thumping coming from the right rear. A section of tread separated from the tire and is flopping against the fender skirt. I hit a really nasty bump on one of Cincinnati's wonderful interstates over the weekend. I'm getting a new set of Potenza's tomorrow and a full alignment Monday. In the excitement, I forgot to record the number when I got back to the driveway. I do remember that it was at 145 plus when I stopped to see what was wrong. The cool part was that it still has air but the bad part is that I can't go over 15 mph.;)

Thanks Sean. I ended up losing about half of the tread but it never did go flat. Since my son works at a tire store (where I'm going later to get the new tires), he said it would be best to take the valve core out in case it would try to explode on the way to his shop. Now for the scrubbing/breaking in of the new tires.:(

I went out to roll up my windows and wrote down the numbers for the final trip for yesterday. Not too bad. The day ended up at 108.8 mpg for the day.
111.6 20.9-to wife's work and back
77.9 1.4-to bank
109.5 5.4-bank to tire failure then back home

Commute was better today than yesterday. I notice that I'm hitting good mileage despite a string of hitting lights I normally could make it through so I think removing the roof rack from the van is having a pretty positive effect. Had my best commute back home ever. 31.4 MPG! Almost better than my trek to work today!

31.8 MPG / 11.0 Miles home to work
31.4 MPG / 13.0 Miles work to home

Whatever happened to following the speed limits? I don't understand the mentality that says it is okay to drive 50+mph in a 35mph zone. :ccry:

It seems that NC remembered their happy pills today... I had people actually following me at 9-5 MPH under the upper limit. And they did so because they actually wanted to. Bizarre.

Yesterday afternoon on my usual commute I had a LOL moment: I passed a car when FASed :D

It happened on a slight downhill where Teresa can more or less hold a steady 60km/h (by the speedo) without the help of the engine and the car I passed wasn't going faster than 50 (by my speedo, again).

But I can't tell an average for this week, the low fuel light hasn't come out yet (it won't be worse than 2.93l/100km=80.2mpgUS).
