We purchased gas for $1.92 today. This is much better than what we paid this summer. With our recent 61.1 mpg tank, our fuel cost per 500 miles dipped to $15.71.

Could have went across the street and got it for under 2 bucks a gallon. But I support a mom/pop operation. I have a account with them I pay monthly with no interest. And truth is,,, I haven't followed prices much in the last year. come to think about it,,, I have a account at the pharmacy, jewler, liq. store, gas station. small town America is great! :) xcel 01-20-2007, 08:11 AM Hi Ed: ___Where did you find $1.92 at? Any Shell nearby possibly? I still see a lot of $2.01’s - $2.10’s and have to fill by tomorrow morning? I guess I should go look some prices up at Gas Buddy or something :( ___Good Luck ___Wayne Chuck 01-20-2007, 09:17 AM A half-mile away, a Shell station had sub-$2 gas...and posted signs they were out, so I settled on my favorite Shell station a mile farther on my work commute path for $2.02. bear15 01-20-2007, 10:29 AM Wayne-- Sam's in Joliet. I think we are having a small price war as a Clark station re-opened in the area. There is a Shell within a block but I did not get the price-- I am guessing it is $2.00 or slightly below. All the stations at this end of town are below $2.00. I just heard on the radio that one of the Chicago Suburbs has gas for $1.89 but I am not certain where this station is. I hope this helps. Average for regular is about $1.95. brick 01-20-2007, 08:53 PM Ha! I just paid $2.36 in MA. Ahh well, it's not like I have **any** excuse to complain about that. tarabell 01-21-2007, 01:14 PM Gas prices are still around $2.4X on this side. Is the rest of the country having early elections or something? xcel 01-21-2007, 01:28 PM Hi Tarabell: Gas prices are still around $2.4X on this side. Is the rest of the country having early elections or something? ___You remembered that one, didn't you! Gasoline Price Manipulation Before the Elections? (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/in-the-news/t-gasoline-price-manipulation-before-the-elections-2457.html) :D :D :D ___Good Luck ___Wayne Chuck 01-21-2007, 01:29 PM Gas prices are still around $2.4X on this side. Is the rest of the country having early elections or something? It's seems California has always had some of the highest pump prices in the nation. I drove there in 96, 97, 05 and it was 20-30 cents higher than Texas. My guess is they have higher requirements for their gas. xcel 01-21-2007, 02:30 PM Hi Chuck: ___They sure do as it is a specific blend of fuel called CA (CBG) for California Clean Burning Gasoline IIRC. With the low sulfur fuel requirement now nationwide, someone is still messing with the CA. consumer no matter what amount of Benzene and chemically lowered VOC’s are pulled from the fuel. On the bright side, NOx emissions are reduced by > 5% vs. the best RFG so it does burn cleaner for whatever reason? At least that was pre-2006 standards anyway? I had to look it up ;) ___Good Luck ___Wayne rhwinger 01-22-2007, 10:58 AM Started seeing sub $2 gas last week. Missed the usual fillup station last week, so I found myself paying $2.09, but hey - it's a lot better than it used to be. Looks like the institutional investors are fleeing the market and oil is finally coming down a bit. bear15 01-22-2007, 12:48 PM Where did you find it for $1.81? The best price I've seen around here is $1.81. Average for regular is about $1.95. xcel 01-22-2007, 02:07 PM Hi Ed: ___I cannot vouch for fuel pricing in the Carolina’s where I think Basjoos lives but there was a nice story in the Detroit Free Press today about Detoit and its local fuel costs. Detroit: Cheapest gas in U.S. (http://www.detroitnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070122/METRO05/701220371/1148/AUTO01) Survey: Prices fall nearly 14 cents nationwide over 2 weeks, mirroring a drop in the cost of crude oil … ___I found a Speedway at $1.95 near me after I had pumped > 19 gallons into the Accord last night at $2.01 :( The Shell at Rt. 30 and I-55 was up at $2.13! Screw that! So I drove home on fumes … again :D ___Good Luck ___Wayne bear15 01-22-2007, 02:54 PM The Shell at the other end of town (80 and Larkin) had gas for $1.99 today. xcel 01-22-2007, 04:53 PM Hi Ed: ___Good things come to those who wait but I could not wait any longer. My local Shell is down to $1.979 this afternoon :( ___In the bigger scheme of things the few cents per do not mean anything but it would be nice to fill up at less then $2.00 per gallon again ;) ___Good Luck ___Wayne diamondlarry 01-22-2007, 05:21 PM There were a few places in Elkhart, IN yesterday that were at $1.879.:) bear15 01-23-2007, 10:49 PM I found gas for $1.90 in town today for a fill-up. Sledge 01-25-2007, 12:00 PM Yesterday afternoon, the nearest gas station was $1.86. This morning it is now $2.16. WTF?! HCHCIN 01-25-2007, 01:27 PM Sledge-- Yeah, one of the stations I pass on my commute went 2.09-1.94-2.19 in about nine hours... --RN brick 01-25-2007, 01:56 PM Well, you know, they have to increase the price fast because the cost really reflects the shipments they'll receive in the future. Not the fuel that's already in the tank. Except...when prices are going down it's because...the last truck...more expensive...huh. Isn't this interesting? bear15 01-26-2007, 06:16 PM You know it is the game they play to keep big bucks in their pockets. Most of the stations are back over $2.10 in the area but Sam's still has it for $1.95 so I filled up (5 gallons) to give them the business and help encourage lower pricing. Well, you know, they have to increase the price fast because the cost really reflects the shipments they'll receive in the future. Not the fuel that's already in the tank. Mobil/Exxon and others made big bucks off us last year.:bananalama: :bananalama: :D xcel 02-02-2007, 10:42 PM Hi All: ___With the price of oil rising again, I don’t know if some of us will ever see < $2.00 gasoline in the Chicago area. I missed possibly my one and only shot when I saw a station at slightly < $2.00 two weeks ago and did not need to fill up at the time :( Oh well, we really do need the $3 and $4/gallon to persuade people to change both their driving habits and transportation choices. I am not looking forward to the pain but it is the right thing to wish for - for all our sakes. ___Good Luck ___Wayne tarabell 02-02-2007, 11:41 PM I'm reading that CA gas prices dropped recently because the refiners have too much winter blend of gasoline. Apparently they won't be able to sell it after the end of February due to AQ regulations. I didn't even know we had a "winter blend" and had to look it up. But nothing's moved below 2.40 yet. tigerhonaker 02-03-2007, 10:10 AM There is NO-$2.00 87 Octane Gas in Franklin, TN. Terry (tiger) brick 02-03-2007, 11:16 AM The price has slowly made its way to $2.18 at the cheapest station in my area. My last fill was a few cents higher. bear15 02-03-2007, 12:48 PM $2.04 this morning in our area-- not bad. Once we start getting warming temps this spring, some of our diesel friends will start making fuel for cheaper yet. dcoyne78 02-08-2007, 01:30 PM Isn't a big part of the price difference between states simply State taxes on gasoline. My guess is that CA, MA and some of the other northeast states have higher gas taxes to support road building as well as to discourage the use of gas. This is not really a bad idea and I agree with Wayne that if things are going to change in the US, $3/gal would be better than $2. Dennis bear15 02-08-2007, 05:28 PM Fuel still close to the $2.00 level in our area. xcel 02-24-2007, 03:20 PM Hi All: ___A bit negative but gas prices have been pushed through the roof around here. Most stations are above $2.40 in far northeastern IL. now with my favorites at $2.45 per today. ___I have no doubt we will see $3.00 again … the real question is exactly when :( ___Good Luck ___Wayne brick 02-24-2007, 04:05 PM Heh. Just when we were all thinking "Oh, no worries, that $3 thing is history" things get cranking again. Oh well. Unfortunately this is what it takes to get people to think about petroleum consumption. bear15 03-01-2007, 03:33 PM We are now up to $2.34. Clean, efficient, and affordable fuel is what we are hoping for. It is unbelievable how much cleaner and more efficient our 2006 Civic Hybrid is compared to even the non-hybrid 2006 Civic (.09 vs .40 respectively). Heh. Most places are 2.95-3.05. locutus 03-08-2007, 11:24 PM 2.49 here for 87 octane as of today. Steadily climbing after hanging around near 2.25 for the last few months. bear15 03-15-2007, 10:48 PM This past week we traveled from Chicago to upstate NY via MI and Canada and the cheapest we found was $2.32. It was $2.79 in upstate NY but was down a few cents when we returned to Joliet, IL to $2.37. bear15 03-23-2007, 09:16 PM It is now $2.39 in the area-- still increasing. :( vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
