View Full Version : Week of June 14th - June 20th, 2010 (Nat Avg $2.71)
Right Lane Cruiser 06-14-2010, 06:04 AM Another week and another opportunity to get that fuel consumption down!
I'm off to a good start this morning...
59F, 1mph cross/tailwind from the NNE, overcast:
117.0mpg for 22.5mi (Home to work)
The tank is back up to 114.4mpg over 769.6mi with 15 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.
diamondlarry 06-14-2010, 06:29 AM I'm off to a so-so start today. The temperature is 67F and the wind is calm. The average for today is at 107.4 mpg. The guess-gauge is now at 10 of 20 bars at the 575 mile mark with 99.5 mpg showing on the FCD.
102.4 8.6
111.3 11.9
PaleMelanesian 06-14-2010, 08:24 AM Construction forced a detour from my normal route.
90.1 mpg / 15.2 miles. Very nice mpg, but more fuel overall.
The tank is now at 79.8 / 594 miles and approaching 1/2. Last tank was 1/2 at 680, but this one is looking a little short of that mark.
LinuxGold 06-14-2010, 12:08 PM Construction forced a detour from my normal route.
90.1 mpg / 15.2 miles. Very nice mpg, but more fuel overall.
Your golden gem to win FE challenge by wider margin?
PaleMelanesian 06-14-2010, 12:25 PM I could, but I won't. I'll keep using my regular route. My goal is reduced fuel usage first, then high mpg. In the last week, I used three routes.
short/fast: 73 mpg, 10 miles = .137 gallons
my regular: 80 mpg, 10.5 miles = .131 gallons
long detour: 90 mpg, 15.2 miles = .169 gallons
LinuxGold 06-14-2010, 12:55 PM I could, but I won't.
So I assume if you are threatened in FE challenge, that "long detour" is a trick in your sleeve to win?
Right Lane Cruiser 06-14-2010, 12:57 PM He's too far ahead to need that one. ;)
Right Lane Cruiser 06-14-2010, 06:12 PM I didn't do nearly as well on the way home as I had hoped. I don't know what was with the traffic today but I had to stop at nearly every light I saw. :p The wet roads and sprinkles didn't help any either.
63F, 6mph headwind from the NE, misting with wet roads:
109.2mpg for 22.7mi (Work to home)
The tank is back down to 114.2mpg over 792.3mi with 15 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.
Day Total: 113.0mpg over 45.2mi
Die2self 06-14-2010, 07:11 PM home>work
= 23.3 / 13.3 miles (68F E@3 with light rain)
work>home
= 24.0 / 13.2 miles (74F NW@8)
daily avg = 23.6 / 26.5 miles
tank is just under 1/8 and 411.9 miles
ETE is steady at 519 (109 miles to go) mile with MPG~23.6
diamondlarry 06-14-2010, 07:26 PM We hit a high of 79F today and the wind was N@ 5 mph
102.4 8.6-to get coffee
111.3 11.9-on to wife's work then home
106.4 9.2-to wife's work
97.7 11.2-back home
Average for today was 104.3 mpg.
lxmike 06-14-2010, 07:49 PM Well I tried to be a nice guy and not hold someone up and almostran outa road. I was making a left turn and i went to the right hand lane after the turn so car behind me could take the left lane and not be held up by me. I'm not sure if it was intentional but he seemed to be just riding alongside me trying to make me brake cause right lane ended a 1/8th mile ahead.
47.6- 8.4 mile to work
44.1- 6 miles home
Chalupa102 06-14-2010, 11:50 PM For today; well technically yesterday. 69F with winds from the NNE @ 5mph
- 47.2mpg for 45.3 miles from home to a concert with my sister
- 44.8mpg for 43.2 miles from concert to home (took a different way because i thought it would be better, but i was wrong)
Day total: 46.2mpg
The tank is currently at 52.1mpg over 436 miles with 4.6 gallons remaining.
Right Lane Cruiser 06-15-2010, 06:15 AM I'll be just taking a very short trip later this morning for an eye appointment not far from the house.
Right Lane Cruiser 06-15-2010, 07:37 AM I changed my mind. It is drizzling but the doctor's office is only a mile from the house so I walked.
epurvee 06-15-2010, 08:07 AM Had a good morning commute, not so good on the way home
30.5 MPG / 13.2 miles from home to work
25.3 / 2.1 miles Work to lunch and back
27.4 / 13 miles work to home
PaleMelanesian 06-15-2010, 08:09 AM 82.5 mpg / 10.7 miles home
85.9 / 10.6 this morning, back on my regular route.
The tank is now, for the first time ever, 80.0 mpg / 616 miles. :D Still above 1/2 on the gauge.
*The long detour route doesn't really give me much more mpg. That 90 I got yesterday was a record for the route. The previous record matches my 88 record on the regular route. Even if I'm in a tight race in the challenge, it won't help much.
diamondlarry 06-15-2010, 03:43 PM Today may well have been one of the last times I drive my wife to her work or to myself to work for that matter. The temperature this morning was 70F and winds were SE@ 5-10 mph with gusts to 15 mph.
100.1 19.1-to wife's work and back to my work-I love the sound of that!:woot:
115.3 11.6-to bank and on to wife's work
99.8 11.2-back home
Average for today was 103.8 mpg.
Die2self 06-15-2010, 07:04 PM home>work
- 22.7 / 13.4 miles (67F W@3 with light rain)
work>home
- 23.2 / 13.2 miles (82F SW@13)
daily avg = 22.9 / 26.6 miles
tank is just on the E mark and has 438.5 miles
ETE is 519 miles (81 miles to go) and holding at 23.6 MPG
Right Lane Cruiser 06-16-2010, 06:24 AM Foggy this morning but crazy drivers (no headlights and still 10+mph over the PSL ) made life difficult (and dangerous!!) for me.
59F, 4mph cross/tailwind from the NNW, foggy:
110.6mpg for 22.5mi (Home to work)
The tank is back down to 113.9mpg over 814.8mi with 14 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.
I've got a lunch meeting today so we'll see how that impacts the day average. It is supposed to be a very nice 81F with plenty of sun later today...
PaleMelanesian 06-16-2010, 07:58 AM I had a nice 81F this morning. Later today -
At least the car likes it. A new commute record, 90.4 mpg / 10.7 miles.
The tank is up to 80.1 / 640 miles and still above 1/2.
epurvee 06-16-2010, 08:42 AM Didn't have as good a commute to work as I did yesterday but I had to drop off stuff for my wife.
28.9 MPG / 12.0 miles home to work
27.9 MPG / 13.0 miles work to home
Right Lane Cruiser 06-16-2010, 02:58 PM The lunch trip was painful (in terms of FE). It was an unfamiliar route with lots of stops and heavy traffic. It was even worse trying to get out of there and then my iPhone overheated and went into shutdown in the middle of GPS duties... hello neighborhood cruising. I finally found my way back to familiar roads and made my way home but by the time I got back up to where I work I was already down 5mi at just 81mpg. :p
68F down, 2mph tailwind from the NNE, overcast,
74F back, 5mph headwind from the NE, partly sunny:
88.8mpg for 5.2mi (Work to Applebee's :ccry:)
109.5mpg for 29.9mi (Applebee's to home... Meh.)
The tank is down to 113.7mpg over 850.0mi with 14 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.
Day Total: 107.3mpg over 57.7mi
On a happy note, the lifetime average ticked up to 91.6mpg on that last trip. :)
Die2self 06-16-2010, 06:41 PM Home>work
- 24.8 / 13.4 miles (70F Calm "imply soupy humidity")
work>home
- 24.3 / 13.1 miles (76F E8 right after some sever thunderstorms moved through, but the roads were mostly dry)
daily avg = 24.6 / 26.5 miles
tank is just touching the bottom of the E and 465.0 miles on the odo
Steady at ~23.6 MPG and still at 519 miles ETE (Just over 56 miles left.) I may have to throw in the gas tank just to make sure I get to the gas station after work. I have never driven as low as I will tomorrow.:p (This will be my longest tank when I make it to the gas station.)
Right Lane Cruiser 06-16-2010, 07:07 PM So close to the 500mi mark, Jason!!!
Right Lane Cruiser 06-17-2010, 06:08 AM A pretty decent trip in this morning despite heavier than normal traffic and a poor start...
66F, 9mph headwind from the SE, clear:
115.6mpg for 22.3mi (Home to work)
The tank is steady at 113.7mpg over 872.4mi with 13 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.
LinuxGold 06-17-2010, 06:54 AM Just now put in 2 logs from my :love:wife's:love: usage....
28.83mpg/15.029 miles (151.56% of EPA)
28.83mpg/16.562 miles (151.73% of EPA)
Not bad for a wife who tries her best! :Banane57:
PaleMelanesian 06-17-2010, 08:07 AM 86.7 home. HOT HOT HOT - bank signs were saying 100.
90.0 this morning. Until yesterday, that would have been a record. :)
The tank is up to 80.5 mpg / 684 miles. I think I'll call that 1/2 on the gauge - same as last (record) tank. ;)
epurvee 06-17-2010, 08:18 AM Had a real good commute to work this morning. This new route that I used is great as it has two very long down hills to cost on and I can maintain 45 on the uphills without the van down shifting. I just need to find a good route back home, and the one I used wasn't it.
31.8 MPG / 10.0 Miles Home to work
25.3 MPG / 12.3 Miles Work to Home
Right Lane Cruiser 06-17-2010, 02:44 PM Getting kinda warm out.
84F part way, 17-26mph tailwind from the SE, mostly sunny,
85F the rest of the way, 22-33mph cross/headwind from the SE, mostly sunny:
121.7mpg for 19.6mi (Work to Doctor's office)
120.7mpg for 4.1mi (Doctor's office to home)
The tank is back up to 113.9mpg over 896.2mi with 13 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.
Day Total: 118.4mpg over 46.1mi
I have love/hate relationship with wind. I love it when it is directly behind me and hate it every other time. :p
Die2self 06-17-2010, 06:51 PM Home>work
= 24.8 / 13.4 miles (75F S@9)
work>gas station
= 23.7 / 9.7 miles (90F S@16 gusting to 25)
gas station>home
= 25.0 / 4.0 miles
Fill numbers
486.8 miles (best tank though, Sorry Sean I just couldn't push myself to the 500, this time)
20.487 gals
23.76 MPG (correction, miss typed in 19.487 instead of 20.487 :()
Daily avg = 24.4 / 26.5 miles
tank is full with 4 miles on it
ETE is 550 miles ;)
I hope this next tank I can maintain the 25 MPG and over 500 miles:o
some_other_dave 06-17-2010, 06:52 PM Only 10 days from this one; I'm driving more due to a number of circumstances. Mileage dropped, too--I am guessing that my previous 50 MPG tank may have been a bit of a short fill.
I guess I'll have to be satisfied with "only" 45 MPG. Still better than the 30 I started with. ;)
-soD
Right Lane Cruiser 06-18-2010, 06:16 AM Every tank is closer, Jason! I'm rooting for you. :D
The traffic just keeps getting worse around here. :p
61F, 3mph cross/headwind from the SSE, overcast:
115.1mpg for 22.4mi (Home to work)
The tank is steady at 113.9mpg over 918.7mi with 12 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.
PaleMelanesian 06-18-2010, 08:08 AM I hurried home and took the fast route. 72.8 mpg / 8.2 miles. I got a call that a chicken was sick. By the time I got home, she was gone. As far as I can tell, she just laid down and died. My favorite of the bunch, too. :(
This morning, 89.2 / 10.7. Until the last 2 days, that would have been a record.
The tank is steady at 80.5 / 702 miles.
epurvee 06-18-2010, 08:47 AM Had to take a bad route to work this morning as I had to drop daughter off at daycare, but I have to remind myself that even though I didn't hit my goal 30 MPG, the 25 I'm getting is much better than the 18 or so I was getting before.
25.2 MPG / 12.7 Miles Home to daycare to work
Right Lane Cruiser 06-18-2010, 03:11 PM Traffic did not want to cooperate and the wind caused some struggles but I persevered. ;)
82F, 15-25mph tail/crosswind from the SW, sunny:
121.2mpg for 22.7mi (Work to home)
The tank is back up to 114.2mpg over 941.5mi with 12 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.
Day Total: 117.9mpg over 45.2mi
Die2self 06-18-2010, 08:49 PM thanks sean for the encouragement
home>work
= 25.1 / 13.3 miles (76F S10) tail wind:p
