View Full Version : chevy cruze vs ford fiesta
joesgot4 06-04-2010, 07:50 PM i'm buying a new car next spring and would like to know which car will be better the" cruze eco" or the "ford fiesta" i want the all around best car of the two so i need yalls help cause i value your opinion! thanks troy:Banane36:
MaxxMPG 06-04-2010, 08:29 PM The two are comparable only in EPA estimates. The Fiesta is a B-class car, or subcompact - closer in size to the Chevy Aveo on the outside. The Cruze is a C-class car, or compact. It is a bit larger than a Cobalt outside, but has interior room that is close to that of the midsize Malibu.
If you want the lowest MSRP, buy the Fiesta. Or wait a year for GM to add incentives to the Cruze.
If you don't like changing timing belts, buy the Cruze.
If you're worried about resale value, the Fiesta will likely be a better bet.
If you need to fit average size adults in the rear seat, buy the Cruze.
If you need hatchback versatility, buy the Fiesta.
If you need power everything inside, buy the Cruze (easier to option up, but it gets expensive).
If you want head turning style, buy the Fiesta.
It's too early to tell which has more "headroom" above the EPA numbers when driven with a Scan Gage and intermediate to advanced techniques.
This may not help in making a decision, but rather raise even more questions. But it should help to start the conversation and let others share their thoughts.
And if you want to wait closer to 18 months, there's an all new Aveo (might be called Viva, like the paper towels) coming for 2011 that is nothing like the current Korean Daewoo Aveo on sale now. The new Aveo will have a 1.2L Ecotec, will be slightly larger outside and much roomier inside, and will be built in beautiful downtown Lake Orion, Michigan. Too early to tell how its EPA will compare with the Cruze Eco, but it'd have to at least hit the same numbers.
joesgot4 06-04-2010, 10:32 PM thanks dude, but i really have some things to think about now! i own an 2006 malibu and was leaning toward the cruze eco,but just a little! i'm still very undecided and i'm not excluding any other brands, but it seems these two have took the forefront over most others!
MaxxMPG 06-04-2010, 11:15 PM A year is a long time in the auto market. By this time next year, we will also have the new Hyundai Elantra with the 1.6L GDI engine. Maybe six months later, we should be getting the new Honda Civic. And I don't think Toyota will sit still and watch the Yaris and Corolla fade into the low end of the mileage competition. Take your time and check the web periodically for spy shots and other future car information. There are new fuel efficient choices on the market now, and we will be seeing many more in the next few years.
Hi Joesgot4:
Update us on your purchase plans now that even more information is out about the Cruze (pricing) and everything you almost wanted to know about the Fiesta is available :)

joesgot4 06-11-2010, 06:05 PM will do,been given some consideration to the hyundai sonata found a 2011 hyundai sonata gls manual transmission in mobile,al for $ 19500! i just wanted to wait till spring of 2011 after my tax money has come! i may can get more off than that, but did not want to ask for a better deal if it was that long before i buy!
Hi Joesgot4:
We have a 2011 Hyundai Sonata coming on Monday for a two week "Event" and Review drive. Stay tuned as Chris and his 11 Sonata was the backdrop for what this one is scheduled for next week ;)
From everything Chris has posted about it, it is tough to beat in just about any measure. I am already thinking about comparing the costs and amenities not to just the Malibu, Camry, Accord and Fusion because it already smokes all of those but compare it to the compact Cruze, Corolla, Civic and Focus just for "giggles". I did a story on the 11 Versa's earlier this afternoon and when equipped with the CVT, you can purchase the more fuel efficient, safer, larger, more powerful including more amenities, etc. Sonata for just $2K more!
When the rest of America finds out about the Sonata, I think they will sit up and take notice even more so than has occurred so far this year. It is already mixing it up with the Malibu/Fusion/Altima on a monthly sales basis with the Accord and Camry not that far away…
Good Luck

MaxxMPG 06-11-2010, 07:48 PM Wayne,
As posted earlier this week, "The Sonata is a hit with buyers of all ages" (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32706), inventory is at 5.5 days, according to the story.
It seems like the rest of America (and many Canadians as well) have discovered the Sonata, but just can't get one. Hyundai can't build them fast enough. My dealer, as of today, has three listed in stock. And one of them is a 6MT with a sticker close to $22k. The only option that can push the 6MT GLS that high is the navi option, unless it has some undocumented dealer add-on trim package. That'd be a sweet cross-country traveler - 60mpg and directions along the way.
I can't wait to see the sales numbers for the Sonata for June. I am not sure they can beat Camry or Accord because the factory capacity seems to be a few thousand short of the magic number it'd take to dethrone the two champs. And they can't build up enough inventory to make a single-month push because they're selling the cars even as they are being shipped to the dealers. I can think of a few manufacturers that would love to be in that position...
