I just got mine in the mail. It has sooo many functions. As fast as I could installed it in a nice spot and went for a drive. I clicked the gauge button and received loads of info. The question I have is - what data should I analyze more so to get better MPG. Thanks in advance for all your help.

Two guages you should definitely use are mpg and TPS(throttle position sensor). I also monitor open/closed loop and at the moment, I have the 4th guage monitoring load. If you are doing a lot of engine off coasting, it may also be a good idea to monitor battery voltage.

I told a friend that has just caught the hypermiling bug in a 1995 Geo Metro that he needs a Scangauge ll . I looked on the web last night for a deal for him and noticed that it is for 1996 and newer.

Would it have limited functions on a 1995 Geo or not work at all?

Will a Scangauge 1 work?

If not, what is his best bet for a MPG gauge. I explained to him that was his next step and he would be watching it instead of the speedometer. He started driving it last week and has filled it three times. His last two tanks were 47 mpg. That was with his tp at 45 psi. I told him to try another 5 psi.

If anyone has some Geo Metro mods listed somewhere, please pm me.

I don't think either scangauge will work. I don't think that car has OBD II

I was afraid of that. I will check it out this weekend.

Hi Msirach:

___There is the SuperMid which runs from a tap off the ECU to the injectors if the 95 Geo Metro has injectors?

___I will do some searching tomorrow as I believe MetroMPG runs a SuperMid in his Geo Metro.

___Good Luck

I've read the thread about it. It is an alternate solution. I hate that I sold him on the Scangauge 2 and it won't work on his "work" car. I guess it would still work on his 05 Colorado and his wife's 07 Beemer.

Scangauage 2 is an amazing. I still have a couple of questions?
1. What is tps - Do i want it hight or low
2. Load- what is it and do I want it high or low.

Trying to learn as much as possible in the shortest amount of time:)

I also drive a non hybrid

TPS = Throttle Position. When I pulse I try to keep mine at 26-27. It might be different for your car.

LOD = Engine Load. I don't follow this. I look at my RPMs instead. But I've only had the SG about two weeks.

My current setup:
TPS RPM
ºFWT MPG

Occasionally I scroll through some of the other things.

Tell your friend to check out: http://metrompg.com/

It's an excellent site for Metro owners or anyone else interested in fuel economy.

It should have come with a manual that includes a brief description of each item on the list that diamondlarry gave you. If not, it is available for download on the SG web site.

Hello from Cuchulain

I have read most of the reviews etc. of scan gauge. It was not obvious from reading the reviews but does it display the HV NiMH battery voltage, current or %SOC.

Thanks Andrew

It does not currently display these things.

Thanks DiamondLarry

That confirms what I suspected.

Thanks Andrew

Thanks, Walter

Push the "home" button and select "more." Then select "fillup." Select "done" and that will reset the tank mileage.

Thanks for the info diamondlarry. Maybe if I follow your instructions exactly I'll get mileage as good as you :)

Just wanted to throw my hat in for LOD. I find it better than TPS since for the Prius, TPS really only lives in the range of 14-30, while lod lives in the range of 30-85. Basically it's like an AMP that goes to 11 ;). I could never get the granularity out of TPS that I wanted, but LOD works out great. It also tells me when the engine is charging the battery cuz I see my LOD jump.

my settings
RPM MPG
LOD cWT

I'm a metric nut though, so I do temp in C and Velocity in kph.

Since there's a question thread already going, I have one question =)

The SG2 works fine while engine is running, but while in FAS, although it does properly display 9999 MPG (as long as I wait a couple of seconds before keying back to run... I use the power steering relay 'click' to determine that), it no longer totals up average MPG data and does its usual sleep mode after a few seconds. Is there any way to get around this and have it continue to record average MPG during this time? Not a big problem, since it is properly recording the fuel actually burned, it just means the average milage can be lower the the actual. I generally coast in idle anyway, so the total isn't off by much.

Hi Navroan:

___When doing the setup, set it for Hybrid instead of Gas or Diesel a or b. Then it will accumulate your FE ICE-Off :)

___You may have not seen the ScanGauge-II review (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/reviews/t-cleanmpg-reviews-the-scangauge-ii-4495.html)? That review has the setup details spelled out so as to get you headed in the right direction quickly.

___Good Luck and enjoy it. It is definitely a fuel saver!

___Wayne
