First tank 1 week, 2010 Prius II , 591 miles 9.43 gallons. MFD 61.2 mpg, Pump 62.6 mpg. Great car !! About 4 mpg less than the 2000 5 spd Insight it replaced.

Great job Ted! The numbers will get much better closer to 3000 miles. You will be happy to know that your FCD mpg is very close compared to the earlier models such as ours. The 61 mpg would be around 55 mpg calculated. Several of us have filed claims with Toyota Customer Service a year ago and still have not had a response.

I see by your Vehicles that you have/had an Insight 2 as well. I found in test drives that the Prius got about 10 mpg better. Have you found the same? I liked the smaller size and better instrumentation of the Insight, and Honda's great support for my old 2000 Insight, but it could not touch the Prius for mpg. Ted

Hi Ted:

Great to hear that one, your later 10 Prius has the fixed OEM FCD and two, that you are pulling such excellent FE from a far larger car with far more utility and safety. While it will never match the Insight-I, for a 5-passenger, it is tough to beat :)

Good Luck

Yes, I am afraid it never will match it, but for a 1200# heavier car it is surprising that it will be only about 4 mpg less. The 2000 insight had 261,000 miles on it and was still running great. LMPG was 62. Given my summer lmpg of 61 so far on the Prius, I expect a yearly mpg will average out about 57 or so. The 2 hybrids operate so very differently. The Insight worked its best mpg by minimizing use of the electric by downshifting a lot . The Prius gets its best mpg by keeping the ICE off as much as possible. Very different.
