Happy Monday, all!

It really is too bad I had a headwind... It's not too often I get to drive to work in weather like this!! Over 70F and 92% humidity?? Wow!

73F, 9mph cross/headwind from the S, mostly clear:

115.8mpg for 22.5mi (Home to work)

The tank is down a little to 116.7mpg over 168.8mi

I modified the technique a smidge. I kind of stumbled on it after coming home from getting gas in the Prius yesterday; I ended up with 122 mpg for the trip back. I decided that I would try some similar speed ranges with the Insight and it seems to be working. I figured if those ranges worked with a bigger car that had a bigger engine that it couldn't hurt to try. I have some decent numbers from yesterday that I'll post in a bit that show some of those techniques are working. I had a trip that had essentially the same route as the trip home from getting gas in the Prius plus, I had Melody in the Insight where she wasn't with me in the Prius; I ended up with a 126.9 over 8.6 miles.

77.8 this morning, 75 degrees and a headwind, running late so I had to hurry.

The tank is at 77.8 / 222 miles and still above F. I was down to F at 290 last tank.

Sean, it looks like you're above my %epa for our tanks-in-progress.

Looks like you are getting the hang of that new car, Larry. :)

I guess I was wrong about not being able to top 130mpg on the new route. ;) It is definitely more difficult with all the extra stops (avoiding the much faster traffic on the main thoroughfare), but I hit 128.5mpg at just 3.7mi.

My wife's first question was whether I got a million honks... nope. Just one. And that one made no sense? I have to pull back out onto the main drag for about 70' in one spot to get to the next string of neighborhood streets. Where I pull out there three streets... and I'm coming out of the center one. A woman in a white van pulled into the turn lane with her blinker... passed the first turn, passed the one I just came out of... then honked at me before turning at the 3rd??

Whatever. It takes all kinds, I guess.

92F (96F heat index), 20-29mph tail/crosswind from the SSE, sunny:

131.3mpg for 22.9mi (Work to home)

The tank is now back up to 118.4mpg over 191.7mi and I still have all 20 bars on the fuel gauge.

Day Total: 123.1mpg over 45.4mi

i was off work today and got my yardwork done and decided to treat myself to a five guys burger :D

stopped at grocery store beforehand for some thing then hit the five guys and got my fav parking spot :)

43.1- 5.1 miles to grocery store. had a nice roll going but had to stop to make the left hand turn, oh well!

46.5- .8 Miles to burger place. had some guy behind me change lanes then try to cut me off as i was slow rolling up to the turn lane and I did have my signal on. he was so intent on "getting" even that he almost missed his turnoff!!

Got a nice roll and when i got on the main road The light was red , but it changed to green in time and i kept my pace up. made the next two light and when i turned on my street was looking good:D:D

51.2- 3.2 mile home

This is is getting to be a habit! I wonder if somehow the burger has something in it that bring out the best in me?? lol

Mike,

You probably should buy a fold up bicycle and put it in your trunk, that way you can leave it parked at the grocery store, take the bicycle out and ride it to five guys burger, eat your favorite burger there then return back to grocery store and start shopping there. =)

I might buy one for myself :)

So, I get going like normal today and go to the school to drop off the son. Engine off to let him out of the other side. Get back in and BANG when I key on:eek:. It sounded like a backfire, so I try and key on again, only a slight click and SG and warning light all doing weird things:eyebrow:. Smoke from under the hood now:confused:.

Hop out to open the hood. The top half of the battery has exploded off the top and is now lying on the other half of the battery:eek:. Was not expecting that. Hydrogen gas must have built up in the battery cells and was ignited when I keyed on. Acid is now dripping down the engine bay and on the parking lot. I tell the principle that the truck will be sitting there for a few minutes while I get a new battery.

There is an auto parts store about 4 blocks away. I get there and they hook me up with a new battery and even give me a lift to install the battery, with tools (go o’reilly!):woot:

I get the battery in and key on and it only clicks (SG is still plugged in). I try again still clicking. I unplug the SG and it starts. I plugged the SG back in and go home to clean up and wash off the Acid. Over 24 MPG on the way home:confused:. Clean up and change as it is already hot and steamy and has made me sweat in my work cloths. I have called work and told them I would be late (about 1.5 hours). I coast backwards out of the drive way and SG is still plugged in and it doesn’t want to start again, I try again and finally it starts:confused:. I get ~35 MPG (I hope this is a good sign) on the way to work, thinking that this battery is great:p, but get to work and check the settings:mad:. The SG must have been set back to default with the low voltage. I have update the settings back to what they should be and may have to fill up again to get the offset fuel settings back to what they should be.

Why would the vehicle have trouble starting with the SG Plugged in, it didn’t before?

Not a typical day for me so far.:o

After work I monitored the Volts for a little while before starting off. I tried a key on but it just clicked  wow a new battery and it just clicks.

Ok, I will bump start it, right. I roll away to the exit and try a bump before I get there. It will not keep running:mad:, again same, again (now I am on the road out side of work) still nothing and no speed now. Roll back words and block one of the exits to work. But it after 5:15 so most people have left. I go back to check if the security personel will jump start me. I run into a co-worker and he gives me a jump. It starts after a little kajoeling, but I have to keep my foot on the gas for it to run. After a bout a minute it runs on it own. No FASing on the way home. I go straight to auto store from this morning for them to check the battery.
21.8 there:( with all the idling and letting it run.

I have sinned, I have idled my vehicle longer than it has idled at anytime in the past 1.5 years since joining this forum :(

auto man brings out his tool and check s the battery and say it is fully charged. (Again with the engine idling) we test the alternater and it is putting out 45Amps (ok). He is not sure, but says to check the starter wires and bring in starter if I wan to test it.

I get home with MPG of 12.7:mad: over 1.1 miles

Looked at the start wires and they looked good, they weren't loose or anything. Took the Battery out and cleanned well alround the battery to get any remain acid off the metal. I cleaned the terminals and the wire stays (they really needed it). I looked at the terminals and there was some scorching, so I am hoping it was just a bad connection to the battery. I put on some patrolium jelly on the terminals and stays to try and limit the amount of corrosion. tighten everything down and it started right up and kept running:rolleyes: Three times in a row. I hope it will in the morning.:(

A pretty good day today. It is 80F and the wind is SE@ <5 mph. The EBH worked wonders today. The coolant temp was 170F when I started out today.
117.8 12.0-home to Goodwill sale
102.2 13.5-back to my bank
137.4 12.1-bank back to Goodwill to pick up my wife
96.3 11.9-back home
Average for today was 111.1 mpg. I think I'm starting to get the hang of this car but see I still have a ways to go.
