I've been getting great mileage, and the new 12v battery from last fall has been great.

However, today my wipers were on the fritz. They basically would not turn off.

Even on the delay function, they were operating with no delay.

When I turned it to OFF completely, they would run for another 5-8 seconds, then stop at a -random- location on the windshield.

So they did stop, but not the way they should, and it took a while.

This continued for my entire commute, then at a red light, I turned the car off, then back on, and it was back to somewhat normal, although a couple times during -delay wiping- it started going full speed again, then back to delay.

The car was in the dry garage all weekend before I took it out in the rain this morning.

Hi Hunter;

I think I've seen a similar report before. In that particular instance, the problem was resolved with a replacement of the MICU and the 12V battery. The 12V battery replacement is often recommended as a best practice and where applicable.
If I recall correctly, the technician inspected the operation of the wiper/washer switch, connectors and the motor and only then did he perform the proper test via the HDS.
Typically, we perform the B-CAN system diagnosis test BEFORE looking at the hardware and I suspect that is what should have been done.

Anyway, I would take it in unless you want to spend the time reading voltages first.

BTW: How's your 12V battery doing these days? The reason I ask is that if the 12V battery is weak then the MICU may have been left in a semi crashed state.

Cheers;

We had misbehaving wipers: it would do double wipes on intermittent, stop away from the park position, and so on. Took it in to the dealership, they said it was the wiper motor. I was a little sceptical, but they said if it turned out to not be the motor they would refund the costs, and they were adamant that was the cause.

Turned out they were right, so far (maybe 6 mo), no further problems. Not sure if your case is the same, but bring it in, let them diagnose. Our repair cost $219CAN, roughly equal amounts for labour and the motor replacement part.
