Nissan revealed details March 30 at the New York Auto Show about its new electric vehicle, Leaf, which will go on sale in December in 10 cities, including Tucson.
There will be two models. The SV, or standard version, four-door hatchback will start at $32,780 and the premium SL will be priced $940 more. The vehicles will qualify for a $7,500 federal tax credit.
Standard features on the SV include Internet connectivity (that will allow the car to be remotely pre-cooled or pre-heated), push-button start, satellite radio and a three-year roadside assistance plan. The SL adds such things as automatic headlights, a rear-view monitor and a solar panel spoiler that won’t be sufficient to charge the car’s main batteries but can be used to charge an accessory battery.
Leaf is designed to run 100 miles per charge of the lithium-ion battery. As part of the EV Project the Electric Transportation Enginerring Corp. (eTec) will provide free home charging stations and installations for up to 4,700 Leaf owners in the 10 test cities. The project also includes installation of 6,510 charging stations, including some along Interstate 10 between Tucson and Phoenix.
Nissan said it will start accepting online reservations for Leaf on April 20. It requires a refundable deposit of $99. ... http://www.azbiz.com/articles/2010/04/02/news/doc4bb62a8eb38ab248231523.txt
