chucksomerock 03-12-2010, 11:52 AM Hi, my name is Charles, i'm from Quebec, Canada.
I'm currently pretty satisfied by my car fuel consumption, but who knows, maybe I can improve that!

Welcome! Had an Echo myself before buying my Insight 1. Great lettle car and great hypermiling potential. I found that a ScanGaugeII helped a lot with my efforts. Check lamebums fuel log to see what one good driver did with the car.
chucksomerock 03-12-2010, 03:33 PM Oh and btw, i'm at my 3rd year in chemical engineering.
goldie 03-12-2010, 04:18 PM Welcome to the site! You will be amazed by what you can learn here to help your driving.
Hi Charles:
___Welcome to CleanMPG and sorry I missed this earlier. A 2002 Echo? That is about the most fuel efficient non-hybrid/non-diesel ever built and I am sure you are going to find quite a few more mpg's out of your little beauty before summer begins with a little time spent here :)
___Good Luck

LinuxGold 03-22-2010, 01:07 PM Gimme your Echo for free please? :)
Gas-x 03-26-2010, 12:09 PM Hi Chuck, I am new here as well .I'm excited for what this site has to offer the daily driver. I firmly believe that driving easy helps everyone and your wallet! ,Ryan

no, hehe
echoman 03-26-2010, 07:12 PM I can say from first hand experience, this is a fantastic hypermiling vehicle! Depending on the type of roads that you drive and the climate you could reach mid to high 50 mpg with not to much trouble. Is your echo a 5 speed? I would recommend a scangaugeII if you dont have one already.
Gas-x 03-26-2010, 08:47 PM echoman ,How many miles do you have on yours ? What is the engine size?
echoman 03-26-2010, 08:54 PM As of two day I have 262,689km. Im not to sure what that is in miles. The engine size is a 1.5L 4 cyl. Great power plant, not to powerful, but great on gas thats for sure!
Gas-x 03-26-2010, 09:00 PM Is it the same engine as the yaris and prius minus the electric then or just the same displacement? Anyway a great little engine. Is the car light for the engine? My Aveo is heavier compared to the power it produces. I don't care though it's what I have and i'm going to see what I can do with it! I'm not a power guy anyway..
Right Lane Cruiser 03-26-2010, 09:13 PM 262 689 kilometers = 163 227.377 miles
The MT Echo is hard to beat for FE among conventionally powered vehicles.
I suspect that Aveo can at least match my Elantra around town if you really work at it… and I've had my Elantra up over 70mpg for round trip work commutes during the summer. ;)
Gas-x 03-26-2010, 10:49 PM Sean I think those Elantras are nice cars as well. I hope to achieve better mpg in my Aveo. I think the SG and pumping up the tires to 44 like the max is on my sidewall would be a great way to start. I will have to wait for a while to get the SG when I'm back to work. I currently have my tires at 38... That is going to change! I was always worried about to much air but after reading about tire pressure on here I'm over the worry!

Its is basically the same as the prius engine, but the prius has a Atkinson cycle. I do believe it is a carryover engine in the yaris.
Gas-x 03-26-2010, 11:42 PM I am pretty set on getting a Yaris next I have heard they are great for hypermiling as yours is. I love the look of the car as well. It's between that and the accent as of now. That is yrs down the road though!
Hi Gas-X:
___I would place the upcoming 10 Fiesta on your list of contenders as you will receive a better equipped, more powerful, safer, far more fuel efficient and much better handling car than the current Yaris.
___The Yaris has been a Hypermiling mainstay around here for years but it is getting pretty old in the tooth by comparison to the award winning Fiesta. Both base and loaded up prices of the two are similar as well!
___Good Luck

Gas-x 03-27-2010, 12:42 AM Thanks wayne, I was wondering if you can point me in the direction of how to post pictures on here. I have a great bumper sticker that I want as my avatar. The drive easy conserve (greenslowmovingvehicle) sign! thanks again Wayne and you have an excellent site!
Hi Gas-X:
___Do not thank me, thank the thousands of members who made CleanMPG what it is today :)
___Regarding pictures, make sure they are not over 800x600 pixels in width and height. The smaller the better. Go to the Gallery (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29928) (link is posted on every page in the menu bar(s)) click on upload pictures and follow through.

Gas-x 03-27-2010, 09:31 AM Thanks Wayne... Quick question... why did you sell your insight?
Hi Gas-x:
___Had to have an extra 4-door in the drive when I need it. The insurance on the fourth vehicle was higher than my fuel savings :( When I sold it, it cost me all of $300 in depreciation for two years of ownership and I sold it about a year when I could have made a healthy profit actually.
___I sold it to a Sports Car enthusiast in Boston who moved to CA and he sold it to a CleanMPG member there.
___Good Luck

Gas-x 04-01-2010, 01:20 PM Good to hear its in good hands then Wayne! If I had one the title would never leave my name! I love the Insight! Fun to see you getting such sweet numbers in bigger cars like the accord ....48.3! What makes the accord a standout to you or is it just what you have and learned to get the max out of her?
