View Full Version : Good FE. Stirring up Trouble.
VaBeachPrius 12-01-2006, 01:40 PM Well, since I got frustrated by being bumped off my perch as chopper champion, I thought I would stir up trouble on priuschat.com by posting a joke about my fuel gage being broken. Something like, "I was driving to work today and I got the add fuel message on my MFD and my fuel gage starting blinking. Is it broken? I currently have 770 miles on the tank. :) "
The last few days of warmer weather have been good to me. My second 800+ mile tank.
Have a good weekend. I will add the data to the database this evening.
Sorry for those of you in the midwest with snow.
Hi Chris:
___I hope you can continue those great tanks! We are sitting in 9” and the Accord hasn’t moved in 10 days. I do not plan on taking her out for the next 5 either ;)
___About Chopper, I see you playing in there. Now get back to work :D
___Good Luck

Chuck 12-01-2006, 02:22 PM Do I need to go over to PC to cheer? :D
You are using your Prius to it's potential, and doing it as temperatures drop.
VaBeachPrius 12-01-2006, 02:23 PM Well, 9" of snow is certainly not the best of hypermiling conditions! Work from home!
I have been taking advantage of the low 70's F temperatures here (70F right now). Cooler temps are on the way for us. High of 50F. :)
Have a good weekend.
VaBeachPrius 12-01-2006, 02:26 PM Delta,
cold snap, nothin'. It was 77F here yesterday. I had to bring up my tank average in the last three days.
:p Get will all your insight buddies on the mileage database and get them to step it up. I would hate to have a prius up there with insight company.:p
psyshack 12-01-2006, 02:50 PM LMAO!!!!! I stand by my ice ridden 40 plus mpg, 40 plus mile segment yesterday in my R-18 Civic. if I can hold above epa in my Civic I expect many in there hybrids to smash my numbers by percentage!

I have nothing against friendly competition.
Occasionally I get a little of this Insight vs Prius talk. I'll probably have to conceed the FE championship to the next generation Prius around 2008, but I might become a sore loser and install MIMA. :D
TonyPSchaefer 12-01-2006, 03:46 PM Well, 9" of snow is certainly not the best of hypermiling conditions! Work from home! Are you kidding?!
Pulse and Slide, baby! Pulse and slide.
(now excuse me while I go shovel my drive again)
brick 12-01-2006, 03:51 PM Have fun shoveling, guys! Conditions have turned south here but nothing like that. I'm sitting in about 65F temps with wind-driven rain, and severe thunderstorm warnings just to the west. Still, I do not envy you and dread the day that our first snowfall arrives.
sno779 12-01-2006, 06:10 PM The temps have been in the 50s and 60s this week in the Phoenix area and my last two day average is down to only 89.3 which has dropped my tank average to only 91.6 in just under 1000 miles. We don't exprience these frigid temps very often but it sure does cut into the Insight MPG average. The temps will be back up into the 70s starting tomorrow.....Louis

___I don’t know why but an old Jim Croche song came to mind when I read that ;)
You don't tug on Supermans cape
You don't spit into the wind
You don't tug on the mask of the ole Lone Ranger
and you don't mess around with Slim.
___And another …
It comes as no surprise that the first rule of gunfighting is
“Never bring a knife to a gunfight”.
Bring a gun.
Preferably, bring at least two guns :D

VaBeachPrius 12-01-2006, 08:39 PM Sno977 sure had to come in and burst my bubble. Seriously, that is awesome. 90ish mpg. xcel, you get credit for what you used to do and what you currently do with your accord and ford ranger. I wasn't trying to start any trouble. You too deltaflyer. :woot:
For all your prius types out there:

Chuck 12-01-2006, 10:35 PM VaBeachPrius,
You are no problem at all! :)
sno779 12-01-2006, 10:36 PM A little friendly competition is always fun. Sorry I brought a gun to a knife fight.:) My cousins son just bought a Prius and is getting 50s. I directed him here and hope you Prius hypermilers can challange and inspire him to greater MPG....Louis
Chuck 12-01-2006, 11:29 PM ...well you can always say a Prius can get greater FE per passenger-mile than an Insight (2 vs. 5).
My perspective is the Insight has achieved the hightest FE of any mass produced car since 1999 and will probably not be beaten until 2008 or 2009. Plugin Prius's may have the Insight beat now, but if you want to interject substantial mods, that 1-liter diesel VW gets around 250mpg (verification needed).
If you think about it, it's sad that the Insight has been allowed to be the milage champ for so long because there has not been enough interest to make gas-sipping vehicles. Lots of advancements have been made since 1999.

i disagree... you have the power to FAS anytime you want, my hybrid FAS when it WANTS to not to when I need it the most.... ****... Wayne warned me lol.
OH boy well bite the bullet as always! Beach you must have some nice deserted roads eh?
VaBeachPrius 12-02-2006, 07:59 AM philmcneal,
I drive mostly on four lane roads that allow me to anticipate who is behind and ahead of me. There are several areas where I must step on it or get run over or piss everyone off. But for the most part, it is just me following with traffic which allows me to pulse and glide 90% of my route.
krousdb 12-02-2006, 08:17 AM I will be driving the Prius again as my daiily driver, hopefully starting 12/11. Right now she is getting a new door skin, fender and bumper cover.
Anyway, I wish that I could give you a good challenge, but with a 140 mile RT commute and working 10 hours a day, I just don't have the time to hypermile. I am hoping for 60-65 MPG tanks at 60MPH cruising speed on 70 MPH interstate.
VaBeachPrius 12-02-2006, 11:15 AM krousdb,
As part of the team that drove the prius to 1400+ miles; I would have to get out and push the car to get great FE like you do. I am trying the best I can to deal with 30+ stoplights. I have seen your logs for the prius at GH and what you can do with a civic VX 69.XX mpg over at gassavers.
Isn't it your prius that has a lifetime 71.8 mpg average at GH?
A 70 mile commute is way too long to seriously hypermile like a prius can do. 3ish hours to work, a 10 hour day, and 3ish hour drive home.
By the way, watch out when you park next to those Honda minivans!
tarabell 12-02-2006, 11:24 AM A little friendly competition is always fun.
I am waiting for the day I hear about a husband and wife competing for FE on their respective cars.
Not that it could ever happen in my case, but if it did -- talk about War of the Roses -- things would get delightfully ugly . . . quickly.
sno779 12-02-2006, 11:48 AM I asked my wife to trade cars for a couple tanks to see what I could get out of it. She said "NO". She didn't want to know what it is capable of and then have me expect her to get the same mileage. She does ok with it as is. She is listed as a hypermiler. (Lil Tractor under sno779) We use her car as the family car and I drive it about 20% of the time. When ever her mileage gets low she expects me to hypermile it and bring it back up to where it should be......Louis
Hi Tarabell:
___There was a couple out of Milwaukee that owned 2 HCH-I’s IIRC and they did compete! I do not think you, Laurie, or Debbie have anything to worry about wrt your spouses having a snowballs chance in hell even coming close to touching any of your capabilities however :D
___Good Luck
