Hi,

I'm seriously looking at a 2010 CRV EXL 4WD and the mpg numbers are scaring me a bit. I currently have an 08 Civic EX Coupe AT and am getting 35-40mpg and love my mpg.

I'm on the fence and would just like to get some realistic numbers here from CRV owners. If I could realistically see at least 30 I'd consider it.

I took one out for a test drive yesterday and like it. Took it on the highway for a few mile and was getting appox 32mpg, but RI/N.E. is not to flat either.

Any info would me much appreciated!!!

Thanks!

We have a 2005 2wd CrV. We have the tires bumped up to 50psi and have gotten 35mpg on the highway. It's my wife's car and she drives around town, getting anywhere between 27 and 30 something. We also have a SGII on it too. I've driven it around town. With lots of NICE ON and cutting the engine at lights you can can get into the 30's.

My wife drives a 2001 4wd. No hypermiling whatsoever. We probably average 25mpg or so. We might get 27+ in summer, and our last fillup this winter was only 21.5 (no better than my truck).

It has been a very dependable vehicle though. Nearing 100k, with only maintainence and one fuel injector.

Ming, We have an '06 crv and after 80k mi are very happy with it overall. Lookup ma and pa in the mileage logs and see 27.1 mpg for almost 63k of perfect reporting and keep in mind we are in northern Vermont. The newer crv is lower wider and has safer seats in the advent of a rear end collision. I try to keep the tires near max sidewall and use winter tires for 4 or 5 months per year. so long. Jon (pa)

Ming,

I notice you are considering the 4 wheel drive version. If fuel economy is such a priority you might think about the 2wd model. They are less money and will get higher mpg.

As a front wheel drive vehicle it should handle winter roads reasonably well, particularly with snow tires. The higher ground clearance often is more important than the 4wd.

My daughter drives an earlier model CR-V and absolutely loves it!!

Cheers,

Roger

Not to change the subject, but maybe consider giving Forrester a test drive, too. Comparing the 4WD Honda with the AWD Subaru, Subaru only has 1 MPG less CTY/HWY, and unlike CR-V, you can get a manual trans...

Hi Ming:

___You have been driving your Civic and are doing well with it, correct? There are people driving Metro’s and RWD P/U’s on the same streets you believe you need a 4WD vehicle for, right? Similarly, do you believe Crude Oil is plentiful enough that you will never experience a $100 fill up in a CRV? That period is a lot closer than you might expect if even the smallest hiccup occurs in the supply side equation over the next 5-yaears that you may own a CRV.

___Good Luck

My wife has an 08 CRV EX. These winter months she gets 21-23mpg and the summer months she get 26-28. She does short 6 mile trips on her daily commute with no highway and she does not hypermile. On the hwy 32+ mpg is easy. We have had no problems with it and we have about 23k on it. We did have to replace the stock tires at 22k though. :(

Thanks everyone for your feedback, I really appreciate it!

Well I bit the bullet and picked up the CRV this past Wednesday. It's a great UV but to be honest with you I felt sooooo guilty trading in my 08 civic, I was sick to my stomach. She was like new and only had 25k on her. The car fit like a glove and so fun to drive. I'm one who keeps my vehicles 10+years.

The more I drive the CRV the more I love it too, but not as exciting as the Civic coupe. I mounted and configured my SGII, naturally the numbers are off till my next fill-up.
Now to fix my signature and sticker.

My mother reserved a 2010 CRV EXL Navi and it finally came in. She's still unsure about it...so I'm trying to convince her. She currently drives a 2005 MDX so it would be a huge jump in mileage.

It's been a few weeks and I'm loving it!!!

Funny story.... My wife unloaded her 09 Corolla due to the recalls. She ended up getting a puff 07 Accord EXL. While she was out-of-state on a business trip I picked-up my CR-V. When she came back home she fell in love with it. So much so she made the dealer take back her Accord and she picked up an 07 CR-V EXL!!!

Last week we took her CR-V to Lake George, NY I averaged 28.8 on the way up and 30.5 on the way back. It was a 400 mile round trip from RI.

Why spend that kind of money on a SUV when you can get a Insight or Civic hybrid for much less? I own a CRV and it is not used much. Off road and fishing trips, maybe 2% use! Not worth having? Hal

Hi all... New here, just found this sight while researching the purchase of a second ScanGauge. We have an 08 CRV AWD and an 07 Fit. Both are daily drivers, I drive the Fit and my wife drives the CRV. She averages about 24-27 mpg, but has a lead foot! I can drive the exact same route and increase the overall average MPG by 3-4 MPG! I'm currently averaging about 32-33 MPG in my fit, 20 mile one way commute in Atlanta, all surface streets. During the summer, that climbs to about 35-36 MPG. Both vehicles are white with tinted windows, I refer to the Fit as mini-me!

On the CRV, we love it and it serves a purpose. My wife caries a lot of stuff she uses daily for her job, so anything smaller would not be practical. I say that, and I bet all her stuff would fit in my Fit, but she likes sitting up higher in the CRV. Anyway, glad I found this place and glad you and your wife are happy with your CRVs!

Hi Ming:

___With the CRV in hand, be careful with it and it should treat you very well. Jennie had a spectacular run in a CRV in Texas two years ago that might inspire you and other CR-V owners :)

Texas: We have a driver on the road in a FE_Challenge as I type… (cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14595)

___She pulled a 42.5 over 325 miles which still makes me proud :)

___Good Luck
