my 1995 150 has a leak in the tank and the fuel gauge can not be trusted. what if anything can i get to better determine how much fuel i am using? my best guess is that i am getting 8-11 mpg. i just don't know for sure. i am going to try this hypermiling technique and would like to see real results good or bad. i think i heard that there is no product for pre 97 vehicles. any other advice or tips would be helpfull too. i am not happy with my mpg but need a truck and this one was the right price and fit my needs.
Hi Logan:
___A leaking tank is the number one fix for a number of very good reasons. Please do that ASAP. A Scan Gauge will show you but even it cannot be calibrated to within .3 or so mpg over a tank until that tank leak is fixed.

Yeah man, get the hole fixed. Hey I was looking at the 4x4- p/u- suv part of this site and it looks like there are some folks that are doing well with their trucks.

Probably cannot use a scangauge in a pre-96 model. Check the scangauge site before you buy. You need an OBDII port, and some of the early ones had idiosyncracies too, iirc.

There are cheapo fixes-check autozone-that I would use if I was short of $$(which I am,so I would). It would be nice, and safer to buy a new tank, but usually that is too expensive.
You are in a nasty climate now-NY, right-so it would be a Bitch to slide under it and fix it .Might even be too cold for the epoxy to set up in those temps. When the weather warms up-track down the leak and fix it.
Keep your tank nearly empty so it will be easy to drop it-just in case the leak is on the top side.Nothing more fun than siphoning 25 gallons of gas. It might have to be empty to fix it.

There are some people on this site that have installed the MPGino, which might be what you need to get that information. You can search the site for the "MPGino" to see what it is and what will be involved in installing one. I hope that one of the members will pick it up from here.
