Right Lane Cruiser 02-01-2010, 06:18 AM A new month is upon us!!
9F, 2mph crosswind from the NE, overcast:
78.9mpg for 22.8mi (Home to work)
The tank is up to 77.0mpg over 156.2mi
diamondlarry 02-01-2010, 07:49 AM At a temp of 16F and wind SE@ 5 mph, the daily numbers are 62.1 mpg for the round trip to get coffee, on to my wife's work, and back home.
Taliesin 02-01-2010, 08:19 AM No stats on the Ranger since Thursday.
It's in the shop.
I'll probably get in back today or tomorrow.
100K mile maintenance
Thermostat housing, thermostat, radiator hoses (needed to be done before they could flush/replace the coolant)
Spark plugs, wires, valve cover gasket
Battery and wires
Steering linkages
Repack front wheel bearings and front u-joint
Overall: ~$2K on a truck that is supposedly worth about $4K.
But then I haven't had to replace anything in 65K miles except tires, so I guess it was due.

Chalupa102 02-01-2010, 09:39 PM what kind of bike Dan?
Vintage Schwinn road bike. I'm gonna take it for a short ride tomorrow and hopefully if the weather holds out, commute to school on Wednesday.
Right Lane Cruiser 02-02-2010, 06:22 AM There's nothing like unplowed roads early in the morning to get the blood pumping! You know it's bad when the temp is over 0F and I can't even touch 70mpg. :ccry:
12F (4F windchill), 5mph cross/tailwind from the N, snowing:
65.0mpg for 22.8mi (Home to work)
The tank is down to 74.9mpg over 201.7mi with 17 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.

- 41.3mpg for 13 miles for the trip home.
The tank is now up to 41.8mpg. If everything works out tomorrow and it's not a blizzard, i should be cycling to school instead of driving.
some_other_dave 02-02-2010, 02:55 PM Refilled after only 1 week due to needing to drive an unusually high number of miles. Many of them highway miles, many of those in the "oh crap I'm late" mode. I think I actually drove 60 MPH on the freeway during one trip! Ulp! (This is on a road with a 65 MPH limit.)
Mileage went up about 2 MPG, which is not bad. The gas station had finally fixed their compressor, so I was able to air up my tires. They had drooped from 50 PSI back down to about 40. Loss was pretty even on all four tires, so handling/tracking was not noticeably affected.
Putting them back to 50 has restored the glide distance that I suspected I might be missing. I'm now looking forward to more tanks up in the 40s.
-soD
Right Lane Cruiser 02-02-2010, 03:47 PM I had a solid 78.0mpg before having to stop to clear my driveway. :p

Right Lane Cruiser 02-03-2010, 03:12 PM I cannot understand it. I've been the recipient of road rage all day long in spite of driving significantly faster than I normally do. I even got passed by a school bus full of kids on the shoulder not 40' from the stop sign I left!! (Speed limit 45mph and I was already in the mid 20mph range when he started pulling around me. I actually had to slow down so he didn't run out of road.)
I've got to start bringing my headset with me so I can call in stuff like that. :(
21F (13F windchill), 6mph tail/crosswind from the SSE, overcast:
84.3mpg for 22.6mi (Work to home)

Unfortuantely i didn't ride the bicycle today because of snow. Wasn't such a great day for f/e either. Starting today, on Wednesdays and Fridays, my sister and i are gonna be carpooling to the gym. It was my day to drive. Average temp was 30F with very little wind.

Chalupa102 02-04-2010, 08:01 PM Ever since i started ridge riding about 2 months ago, i haven't had any issue with 18-wheelers, till the trip from the gym to home :(. About 1/2 thru the highway commute, i noticed a semi in the left lane a ways back. It moved to the right lane and about a minute later closed in and started tailgating. He even decided to blow his horn at me to try to make me go faster after he was tailgating for about a minute, so i thru on my flashers for a few second. I was going between 55-60mph. He kept tailgating and finally ended up passing after the traffic in the left lane cleared. I think he knew it was my birthday today.
Besides that, much better day for f/e, but did a bit of short trips today. Average temp was 30F with 11mph winds from the WNW.
- 45.7mpg for 23.4 miles from home to school :).
- 32.6mpg for 5.6 miles from school to the gym.
- 43.4mpg for 23 miles from the gym to home.
- 43.9mpg for 2.6 miles from home to the middle school to pick up friend's son to help them out.
- 36.5mpg for 1.6 miles from middle school to friend's house to babysit for a bit.
- 42.9mpg for 4.9 miles from friend's house to store.
- 36.1mpg for 6.2 miles from store to home.
The tank is currently sitting at a steady 41.5mpg. My bicycle is ready to go for the morning, so hopefully i will be using that to school instead of the car.
Right Lane Cruiser 02-04-2010, 09:06 PM Happy Birthday, Dan! I hope the rest of the day was a good one for you. :)
Chalupa102 02-05-2010, 05:46 AM Thanks Sean. Besides the truck, it went well.
Right Lane Cruiser 02-05-2010, 06:15 AM More unplowed roads to deal with! :p
28F, 3mph cross/tailwind from the NE, snowing:
67.9mpg for 22.8mi (Home to work)
The tank is back down to 75.6mpg over 339.3mi with 14 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.
PaleMelanesian 02-05-2010, 08:29 AM At the beginning, I had a flatbed welding truck crawling along in front of me. I mean crawling. 10 mph uphill and down, likely in first gear, since I could hear the turbos hissing like mad. It's a perfect "swooping" p&g route, but all I could do was plod along, as the hills don't offer many passing zones. I calculate that segment cost me about 2 mpg for the trip.
~40F both ways
58.7 home in the driving rain
63.6 this morning, with mr truck
The tank is down again, to 68.6 mpg, 372 miles.
lxmike 02-05-2010, 03:14 PM 40.7 on 7.1 miles to work. temp about 62-63 at 6am.
36.x on 7.2 miles home. temp in low 70's.
traffic was lil heavy coming home cause It could have been 41-42 trip in that weather.
Right Lane Cruiser 02-05-2010, 03:28 PM Nice job, Mike!
32F (24F windchill), 9mph headwind from the NE, snowing with slushy and wet roads:
74.4mpg for 23.0mi (Work to home via a detour around a wreck )
The tank is steady at 75.6mpg over 362.4mi with 13 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.
Day Total: 70.9mpg over 45.9mi
Chalupa102 02-05-2010, 03:35 PM No numbers today cuz i actually bit the bullet and rode my bicycle.
melinuxfool 02-05-2010, 03:51 PM Morning commute. Brr! It was so cold, that when I went to start the truck, the clutch pedal lagged behind my foot. It's always depressing to start the mornings when it's cold, especially when you get 15 mpg on your first 5 miles. I got 21.3 average.
It was MUCH better on the way home, and almost a record. I parked in a sunny spot, and I think that helped. I stopped at a store after my decent down the mountain, got 24 mpg for that 6.3 mile segment. That counted the warm-up period and a lot of ups and downs. I've notice that ups and downs can be good when you're warmed up, but they are detrimental when the engine is cold.
The remaining 21.4 miles, over the more level (well there were a lot of hills, but I wasn't mountain climbing) roads, I got a whopping 29.3 mpg! :Banane01:
Today's average: 23.7 MPG
Tank average so far is 23.2 (up from 22.6 yesterday).
Bring on the warmer days! I wonder what I could get if I could avoid traveling up the mountains in the morning.
Die2self 02-05-2010, 06:48 PM Great work linux

Chalupa102 02-06-2010, 06:18 PM Quick trip to pick up some coroplast and warm up the car so i could do an oil change because i was a bit over :o. Tried some P&G for the first time ever today. I'm not sure if i was doing it right, but for the first trip my EBH was only plugged in for less than an hour because i forgot to plug in earlier, so start up coolant temp was 52F. I'm happy with my results because typically i see low 45mpg when i pass the sign shop on my way to school with the start up coolant temp at lowest 75F to around 100F. Temp for the trip was 25F with very little wind.
- 46.4mpg for 12 miles from home to the sign shop.
- 41.3mpg for 11.7 miles for the trip back home.
Tank is up to 41.6mpg and next time i go out i'll need to fill up.
