On my 2004 Elantra, *sometimes*, the speedometer jumps around while the Scangauge is connected. Is this a problem, and do I need a new cable from LinearLogic?

You may need a new cable. I found that mine does not work at all (just twitches around zero) unless I plug it in AFTER the ECU has booted (not recommended in the manual). Other Elantras don't seem to work ever unless they get a different cable.

Think I can break the CAN pin off myself? ... Not a good idea, that cable could be unusable on other vehicles!

Ron is pretty good about responses to problems, based on past poster history. Just give linear logic a ring and he should just ship you a new cable.

I called them. A nice lady whose name I forget took my address, the make/model of the car, and the problem description (in reverse order) and said they'll ship me a new cable. I made sure to tell her that I'm happy with the scangauge except for this one problem.

RLC: I've taken to plugging it in after starting the car, and haven't had a problem since then.

I'm glad you have a satisfactory resolution!

LL sent me a new cable. It has even more pins than the old cable. Is that right?

I can't answer that one as I've never seen the replacement cable. Others have, though.

Original cable (as sold to me by another member here, along with his scangauge):

Not to derail, but slightly related. My '04 Elantra I just got on Friday threw a CEL on Saturday right after filling the tires up ( 25 PSI - ). I knew it didn't have TPMS, so that wasn't the issue. My buddy who was with me and I debated cause - figured that after a nice run on the highway, it was warmed up and the slight exhaust leak at the resonator was probably causing the rear O2 sensor to go nuts. Went to AutoZone to have them read it; the Actron kept giving link error. I found out that for the Actrons, you have to plug in BEFORE turning key to on - contrary to what is stated for them.

Sean, you mention that you plug in your SGII AFTER you turn the key. I'm trying to push to get an SGII now. Would one cable work for the Elantra and "everything else," or would I need to get both the "normal" and "Hyundai" cables?

Side note, if you guys haven't checked out www.hmaservice.com, it's an AWESOME resource - and 100% free.

Hi, Nevyn -- I never got a replacement cable for mine and it seems to work just fine in everything I've tried. The only foible is the non-functioning speedo if I plug in the SG when the ECU is not already booted up (the engine does not have to be running). I did find that an older Explorer had to actually have the engine running before my SG-I would "connect".

It is worth noting that my SG-I never exhibited the speedo issue in my Elantra.

The best advice I can give is to get the gauge and see for yourself if my method works. If not, you'll just need to get another cable shipped to you from LL (which I think is free).

My new cable was free from LL after I told them what the problem is.

So far, I've had no speedo issues with my '04 Elantra and SGII. My cable had all the pins in it already; maybe that is why.

Hmm, my new cable has all-pins, too. The new cable works fine. The old one had fewer pins and didn't work fine.
