1987 Chevrolet Silverado Disel P/U
Engine: Extended chassis mid-engine. Allison transmission. Nitrous oxide and alcohol injection added. Runs on peanut oil.
Interior: Completely customized race-spec interior.
Exterior and accessories: Weight: ~ 10,000 lb’s
Wheels and Brakes: Front tires are from a Cessna airplane, rear from a Boeing 747. Ford 9-in disc brakes to rear and installed 180 mph parachute.
The folks from Yahoo Autos, the automotive Internet site, e-mailed to boast that they set a land world speed record of 98.155 m.p.h. in a customized 1987 Chevy Silverado pickup with a diesel engine.
But the truck, dubbed Lipid Lightning, burned peanut oil instead of diesel.
It would have had to hit at least 150 m.p.h. to claim the diesel record. So the Yahoo folks settled for the world's fastest peanut-oil-powered vehicle. Still, they got a trophy.
