View Full Version : Week of 11/27/2006 - 12/04/2006 tbaleno 11-27-2006, 10:06 AM Nice warm temperatures today. Light traffic. I was able to get 52mpg on the trip to work today. Chuck 11-27-2006, 10:07 AM 85mpg this morning, but that was because I stripped the oil pan thread last night and wanted to drive the car into the dealer nice and easy without it dying in a pool of oil. tbaleno 11-27-2006, 11:12 AM If it was safe for you to drive that way then WHY aren't you driving that way all the time ;) Chuck 11-27-2006, 11:29 AM Safe can be a relative term. This morning I tended to cruise 40-45mph and most people are going over the 60mph speed limit (you know how that goes....) It was at least 5mph slower than I would normally drive. brick 11-27-2006, 11:32 AM Pretty chilly this morning, 34.x mpg on the way in. This week's goal is to maintain my current tank FE of ~35.0mpg. psyshack 11-27-2006, 12:30 PM 41 mpg in the Accord for the trip in to work... diamondlarry 11-27-2006, 02:08 PM The temps started out at 50+F this morning. I should have done some FAS on the trip to the wife's work but didn't. I ended up with 38.2 for the 5.8 mile trip. From there to my work(~9.6 miles) I ended up with 55.2. The return trip to the wife's work this afternoon came in at 58.3 and from there to home was 58.3 as well. The return trip home was a bit longer because I went the back way but it is less traveled. The route is just a smidge under .5 miles longer but I end up with 2-3 mpg better than when I take the usual route. Chuck 11-28-2006, 07:45 AM 84mpg this morning, but a cold front is about to wipe out the nice 66F weather.... A silver HCH-II passed me doing about 60... psyshack 11-28-2006, 08:15 AM 40 MPG for the trip home yesterday in the Accord. Low 70's F with a slight head wind. 40 MPG this morning with temps in the low 60's F a slight tailwind. Had rain for half the trip and wet roads for the whole trip. Had a Yaris behind me this morning. Was thinking,, here Im getting just as good of MPG in a Accord AT-PEZ. lolololo tbaleno 11-28-2006, 08:36 AM Another good morning due to warm temperatures. brick 11-28-2006, 09:38 AM So far so good. Yesterday's average was 36.4mpg, this morning's segment came in at 35.3mpg. I feel like it takes forever to build up FE these days. diamondlarry 11-28-2006, 04:45 PM Today was a good day. :-) The temperature started out this morning at ~50+F. I decided to FAS on the first leg of the trip so I could see some good numbers before the temps go completely downhill later this week. The trip to the wife's work was 45.2. Hopefully Santa will bring me a block heater for Christmas. :D From the wife's work to my work was 51.6. The temperature rose to a high of 64F for the trip to pick up the wife at work this afternoon and, along with a slight tailwind, I was able to pull off a 60.5. From her work to our house(back into the previously mentioned tailwind :-( ) was 55.8. On Tuesday's, I have to go pick my daughter up at her school so we can get to her voice lessons. The trip from home to the school is about 5 miles + or - and I was able to get 56.4 going into a slight headwind. From the school back home(tailwind :-) ), I managed a 74.4 :woot: From home to the lessons, I got 72.4 and on the way back I got 59.2. The weather forecast for here is saying that temps will take a dive from our present 60+ to highs in the upper 40's on Thursday and down to low to mid 30's all the up to next week. I think I may top off my tank tomorrow night so I can have one last 50+ tank until spring. :-( VaBeachPrius 11-28-2006, 06:01 PM 2006 Toyota Prius Yesterday: 87.1 mpg over 42ish miles Today: 85ish mpg over 20.4 miles from work to home. Tank Average: 73.0 over 568.8 miles. brick 11-28-2006, 08:09 PM Home-bound commute was terrible: 32.6mpg. Getting held up in traffic at the very beginning drove most of the nails into my coffin. A few minutes ago I installed a piece of coroplast to block the bottom half of the radiator so we'll see if it helps at all tomorrow. rhwinger 11-29-2006, 05:15 AM Blessed with some more mild, if not downright warm, temps yesterday afternoon. 65 mpg on the way home, and it was a nice drive to boot, except for this one guy in a black Accura. I HEARD his subwoofer before I saw him in the rearview. Right on my butt for a few miles. When the road opened up to 4 lane divided, he passed. Two miles up the road, I pass him when he's stopped in a turn lane waiting for the light. Guys like this just make me think "65 mpg vs 20". 48 degrees this morning and the lights seemed to be cooperating more than normal. At one point the trip mpg was indicating 62.x. The next thing I know, it's reading 60. Must have gotten careless for a bit there. Finished up with 64 mpg this morning, but I felt with the conditions, I should have done better. brick 11-30-2006, 06:18 AM Good numbers and a story. Turned in a par-for-the-course 35.1mpg tank yesterday. The new tank is now about 40 miles old and sitting at 35.8, owing to an OK performance yesterday afternoon and a 39.5mpg segment this morning. Part of my success this morning is owed to someone in a shiny red Corolla who set up a beautifully executed DWL/DWB traffic pattern for 75% of my journey. (Anybody who drives Rt.140 in nothern CT with a red Corolla reading the forums? Seriously?) There was someone in a blue Focus between that car and me who just couldn't deal with it, simultaneously riding the leader's bumper and his own brakes. He had done the same to me only moments ago and I'm pretty sure it was more ineptitude than impatience as the driving force. When I offer impatient people an opportunity to pass they get right on it. This guy had to use his phone-a-friend and his audience poll to figure out why I had pulled into the climbing lane and bled off at least 5mph of speed. (The Corolla driver did the same thing ahead of me!) Funny stuff, really. It's nice to end this "heat wave" on a good note. I keep trying to convince myself to trade the Accord for one of the high-mileage hybrids, but mornings like this give me pause for consideration. She really does deliver the goods when you ask nicely. Chuck 11-30-2006, 08:09 AM Winter hits Dallas Today It rained last night, but the roads managed to stay wet - not icy. I will take off early as the weathermen predict freezing roads with a vengance. 74mpg this morning psyshack 11-30-2006, 09:06 AM What a mess!!!!! I didnt make it in to the office. I turned around at the half way mark. Freezing rain over night with sleet this morning has turned the roads into a ice fest. The snow is just south and west of here and bearing down on us soon. Given all this mess. I am very happy with 42 mpg this morning in the Civic. :) Im sure the warm air intake helped alot with intake temps once warm at 70F. psy tbaleno 11-30-2006, 09:26 AM Cold weather = back to winter numbers. Only got about a 45mpg segment driving to work. Chuck 12-01-2006, 04:30 PM Left at 1:30pm early as the sleet and snow was coming down. What might have been a 75-80mph commute back home under ideal conditions was 60mpg under freezing road conditions. Not many were driving faster than 40mph. Sinus and throat kept me home today - got to find the NyQuil! diamondlarry 12-01-2006, 05:22 PM I managed to get some relatively decent numbers this afternoon. I'm not going to post this morning's numbers because I believe that the SG was improperly calibrated. I filled up Wednesday night and the SG repoted more fuel used than I actually used so I bumped the correction factor down to match the pump amount. The tank figured 54.85 mpg(SG repoted 52.5) after 213.4 miles by the way.:woot: Anyway, my numbers yesterday and this morning seemed overly optimistic(mid 50's) so I went and topped off the tank at lunch today and found my suspicions confirmed so I re-calibrated back to just under what it was at Wednesday. My mileage this afternoon on the way to pick up my wife at work was a bit more realistic. For the 9.6 mile trip, with winds(nearly direct cross-winds with an occasional headwind angle) of 15-20 mph and gusts to 35-40, I managed 48.2. I then had to go pick my daughter up at school which was almost right back where I started from at my work earlier:( and was able to pull off a 48.5. A little while ago, I had to make a trip to Walmart. The ~8 mile trip there was with a direct tail-wind and I got 52.*.:) The trip back home was horrible though. I worked it for all it was worth and could only manage 42.*. WINTER BITES! diamondlarry 12-03-2006, 09:58 AM Even though the temperature was 17 degrees and I was driving north with winds from the west at 5-10 mph(according to weatherbug), I was able to manage a 50.7 mpg by the time I got backed into my garage on the ~6 mile trip on the way home from church this morning. P&G rocks! Chuck 12-03-2006, 11:53 AM Drove only 3 miles yesterday in 45F weather - 46mpg, but that's to be expected on a cold short run. krousdb 12-03-2006, 12:23 PM Well the suspense was killing me. Over the last 24 hours I ran several errands with the RAV 4 where I drove 100%. My wife wanted to drive so I stopped at the same gas station, same pump and set it to the low setting. 79.7 Miles, 2.387 gallons, 33.39 MPG. Temps averaged 50F. I am hoping for a few more MPG's when the tires and mechanicals break in. :) philmcneal 12-04-2006, 12:50 AM any fasing on the Rav4 Dan? or just conservative driving? woot managing to bring my tank average towards 45 mpg + after just getting out of a nasty winter. krousdb 12-04-2006, 05:40 AM any fasing on the Rav4 Dan? or just conservative driving? Mainly ICE off at long stoplights. I did FAS 3 times for about 0.4 miles each on the downhill slope on my street into the garage. rhwinger 12-04-2006, 07:34 AM Drove the kiddies to their horseback riding lesson Sunday afternoon. 01 Pontiac Montana EPA rated at 22 mpg combined/ 26 highway. This particular drive was more like "country road" than "combined" or "highway"? Just tried to drive conservatively, coast, etc... The mpg display registered 30 mpg when we got back - forgot to clear the trip odometer when I left, but it's something like 60-70 miles round trip. Hypermiling a minivan now - a new low. :-) vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
