...and he seems serious, even after having 7-8 concusions. Read story (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/12/22/aikman-suggests-getting-rid-of-helmets/)
It sounds a lot like our discussions on auto safety - big vehicle drivers are often less cautious because they feel invincible.

Makes a certain amount of sense...people use the helmet like a battering ram, forgetting its attached to their head.
On the other hand, maybe the helmet should just be attached to the body instead of just the head, so force applied to the helmet don't transfer.
The last time I heard something like this was NASCAR where they were looking at the restraint system to prevent the head from pulling away until the spine breaks. One of the biggest names giving the most opposition to the idea ended up dying from exactly what the restraint was supposed to prevent. Hope Troy doesn't go the same way.

Maybe he has been hit in the head too many times to think straight. Head injuries is why they instituted helmets in the first place. It was one of the first safety requirments in football.

He hasn't worn a helmet in many years, not likely he goes that way.
