A year after this initial rebellion against the ancient Greeks 2150 years ago, Mattathias died, leaving his son Judah Maccabee in charge of the Jewish army. After three years of fighting with fewer men and weapons, the Jews were successful in defeating the Greek soldiers - they were free to practice their faith. Judah and his men went to the Holy Temple to clean and fix any damage. Many of their precious items were missing or destroyed. They cleaned and repaired what they could of the Temple and when they went to relight the Menorah (http://www.essortment.com/all/hanukahwhatis_ridh.htm#) they discovered enough oil for only one night. Miraculously, the oil lasted eight days, giving them enough time to obtain more oil to keep the menorah lit continuously. Today Jews light the menorah for eight days, remembering these early triumphs.

I hope my unusual perspective did not offend anyone.

Happy Hanukkah!

Would that be hypermiling or hyperlighting? They do seem very related to me, since they are both getting the most out of each drop of oil :D Although I think Judah may have gotten a little more by way of divine intervention ;)

I never thought of it quite that way before reading your perspective Chuck. So thanks for the new view on things!

I'm not the most versed on Scripture, but I don't think that Menorah was burning ethanol.

How about running a TDI on olive oil? I'm sure it's possible.

Probably a little more expensive than other oils though ;)
