It's going to be wet, dark, and not much fun around these parts. Let the games begin...

Hi Tim:

___Had a 51.4 coming home last night but that is so “Last week’s news” ;) How did you do this morning? It sounds as if you are honing in your drive on the new commute route given the 40 mpg segments in freezing temps last week.

___Good Luck

I did OK this morning, considering. I was running a little late (Monday...blah) so I hopped on the highway instead of the secondaries. It took about 5 minutes less and was a 36.1mpg segment. The good news is that the actual distance travelled is 5% less by that route than the FE-friendlier new route. (Mind you, that's just to this office...the new route is far shorter to the other office.) I'll be back on the secondary roads for the rest of the week since I can more than make up for the 5% distance penalty most of the time. Too bad it's already starting to look wet out there.

I wasn't expecting much this morning because it was kind of cold out. But for some reason I did very well at about 48mpg.

I'm playing around with driving sans-feedback to see how well I do. Both commutes so far have been consistent with prior experience in these conditions and my level of effort (which has been about mid-level). 32.xmpg in the rain yesterday afternoon and 36.1mpg on wet roads this morning. Just careful quasi-steady-state driving. It was wierd, though. My eyes are well trained in their sweep of the gauges and it took a conscious effort not to glance at the velcro where the ScanGauge normally rests.

Hi All:

___Uneventful 51.4 out this morning in 38 - 42 degree temps and 52.5 in this evening in 43 - 46 degree temps. Tank is sitting at 48.5 :(

Temps in the 40's F on the morning commute, 50's and 60's on the evening commute. One evening with heavy rain for the whole commute. Gassed up and calculated 69mpg, it would probably have been in the 70's if not for the rain.

I've been working to maintain a 56.n MPG tank average. They are forecasting bad cold rain tonight and tomorrow. Hopefully, I can ease through the day and get gas in a couple or few days.

I finished last week by filling the tank on Friday - the NAV display showed 40.1mpg, calculation showed just a hair over 37mpg. I was doing so well - had actually been as high as 43mpg - but Thursday & Friday turned out to be a lot of stop-&-start trips for my dad, who came down here for an outpatient procedure.

After last week's FE-friendly temps, we're back down in the high 20's-low 40's here. On Sunday I finally got my grille covered up, & with that & the block heater, things seem to be looking better - after my commute to work this AM, the StealthMobile is parked across the street with 38.8mpg on the NAV display. Of course it's still a fresh tank - not even 100mi. on it yet, which means the NAV FE display fluctuates quite a bit.

We'll see how it goes - that nasty s-word is in the forecast for tomorrow...:(

My week of driving without staring at the ScanGauge is still going pretty well. I was over 36mpg yesterday afternoon and managed a 37.2mpg segment this morning with plenty of NICE-ons but no FAS except when coasting into the lot. (I only seem to lose 2-3% by not FASing.)

Last night I improved my setup by fabbing up a bracket to mount the ScanGauge to my center console below the radio. I just cut and bent a little steel sheet that I had left over from another project. The bracket hangs by a couple of pre-existing (and very convenient!) screws, and the ScanGauge sits in its cradle with a piece of double-sided mounting tape to keep it from sliding out. It's pretty good for a half hour's effort so I'll probably take some pictures for the Hardware section.

Decided that with the approaching winter storm, I should get gas this morning.

Tank average . . .
Tank Days: 16
Tank miles: 480.3
Refill gal.: 7.522
MFD MPG: 56.5

Lifetime MPG: 50.5

I should do the same so I can have one more half way decent tank before snow starts killing them.

I could literally be land sailing - gusts up to 50mph thought the day.

FE friendly 67 degrees today and no 50 mph winds! Took a slightly different route back home today, with a stop at the Scout store on the way. At one point was blessed with a slow moving cement truck to follow. I thought he might be heding back to the cement plant 5 miles up the road, so decided to follow him. Unfortunately he peeled off after a mile or two, so I felt "naked" in rush hour traffic. Continued on and towards the end of the route came upon a big utility company towing a big, boxy trailer! Follwed him for 3 or 4 miles, every one else impatiently passing him.

When it was all over, pulled into the garage with 70.7 mpg on the 31 mile segment. Boy, this Bond Mobile is awesome!

Hi All:

___49.2 in this morning in 42 - 45 degree temps. A lousy 45.7 coming home in the same with heavy rain, heavy head winds, and the usual 2.5 hour traffic nightmare :( Tank is sitting 48.4 with another 150 + miles to go for her next fill.

I think we're gonna get that rain in another day or two...
Holding just above 60 avg, with about 140 miles on the new
tires now. I'm not seeing any noticeable MPG hit from the
Hydroedges yet, but today I went out and got 'em up to 49/46
or so psi just to, uh, make sure. They still feel a bit less
"springy", or something, than the Integrities, but I think
they *roll* just fine. The front-to-back lights in the "green
diamond" seem to indicate that when they're pulling along the
highway they might be squirming under the load just a *little*
more than before; I'll see if that settles down after a while.

This morning was probably my last good segment of the week. 38.2mpg door to door, and touched 39.5mpg at about the 3/4 point. Traffic was light and the drive was unusually pleasant. The technique was to use plenty of NICE-ons with a little DWL, plenty of traffic and light timing where possible, and two FAS opportunities where I had a red light and into the parking lot.

It looks like it doesn't make a shred of difference whether I have that iFCD or not. It's pretty easy to tell by the seat-of-the-pants what I should be doing with the throttle.

I don't have a whole lot to report that's out of the ordinary. My segments for the 5.8 mile trip to my wife's work are anywhere from low to mid 30's. From her work to mine 9.6 miles away have been in the mid to upper 40's with an occasional leap into the 50's. Yesterday morning, I had a strong tailwind(~20+ mph) and the trip to my work came in at 55.3.
My SG lost it's memory yesterday.:( I have to re-set the keep-alive memory in my car every so often. I don't know if it's due to the car being CA emission compliant or what, but after a day or so of heavy FAS activity, the car will want to idle at 2,000 rpm's or so until I come to a complete stop at which time it settles into it's normal idle speed. Disconnecting the positive battery cable usually corrects this. Yesterday after the latest re-set, the SG basically went back to factory defaults after it re-established it's connection with the car's ECU. Unfortunately, this is NOT the first time this sort of thing has happened with this SG.:(

The cardboard & the engine block heater seem to be doing their jobs:) Despite AM temps in the 30's & PM temps in the 40's & a heavy headwind yesterday, my car is parked after this AM's commute with 40mpg on the NAV screen (which should translate to 38-39mpg calculated).

I am pleased:) :) :)

I was wrong about no more good segments for the week. This morning was a beautiful 62F with only slightly damp roads. Unfortunately traffic was a mess due to road closures caused by downed trees & power lines. Still, I rolled in with 37.8mpg on the clock using lots of NICE-ons and some other basic stuff.

man i hate scrubby gas stations... i'm so used to the computers of cheveron taking over my bill, but i had to visit a shell scrubby gas station. Not only I resetted my liters pumped by accident, I wasn't sure they charged me for the right amount! So i royally boched up this tank and as you can see... no more hypermiler status argh!!!

i was so paranoid since i only had one blip on the gas gauge and didn't want to risk it... although it was a dumb mistake on my part.

i still think its other people that deminishes my ability to P&G...

Hi All:

___On my way to the following “A weekend excursion into downtown Chicago … (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2778)”, 47.2. On the way from there to Maggiano’s, just 40.2. From there to home, a very poor 41.3. Tree Lighting in downtown Chicago tonight and the mall where Maggiano’s is located killed me. 85 miles in total at 43.5 was the result :(

___Deb, you are still doing great with these #($% cold temps!

___Tim, not bad for a non-FAS routine.

___Phil, did you get that block heater installed and the PSD fluid swapped out yet?

___Good Luck

As far as the commute goes, it wasn't a bad week. Friday night I got home with 40.5mpg on the NAV screen. Then on Saturday we went down to Roscoe, IL (about 76 miles from Milwaukee), where my step-son & his girlfriend have bought their first house. When we pulled into their driveway the NAV showed 38.8mpg, but by the time we got home again last night, it was down to 37.0 - I know that's good for highway miles & at this time of year, but still...:(

I'm not going to fill up until we leave for Sheboygan on Thanksgiving, so I've got a few days to try to add an mpg or two.

Eep! Tanked up on Friday and took a short trip across town
Saturday and back, but didn't notice the MFD until this morning
when heading out to tech a dance gig... how the HECK was it down
at 44.something?! I have no clue; managed to work it back up
to 52.0 by the time I got home and I've got the rest of the
tank to continue, but sheesh. Inauspicious start, to say the least.
.
With the advent of hydroedges and cooler weather, it's still
hard to lower my expectations...

Hi Hobbit:

___I have slowly been giving it away to the colder temps in the Accord and I just shake my head asking what more can I do :(

___Tonight my wife and I drove the MDX to take a basket of Thanksgiving fixings over to an Adopt-A-Family.

___Temps, 31 - 33 degrees F and I hit at least 15 stop lights and 12 stop signs round trip through an unfamiliar area of Zion, IL.

Start: 127.9 miles @ 16.2 mpg’s = 7.895 gallons
Finish: 147.8 miles @ 17.2 mpg’s = 8.593 gallons

Talley: 19.9 miles on 0.698 gallons = 28.51 mpg’s

___Not one of my best efforts by any means but at least it is headed in the right direction for such a short trip, lengthy stop and return w/ all the forced stops.

___Why would anyone buy one of these pigs in the future? Size and lux are great but a loaded out Prius can come close nowadays?

___Good Luck

___Wayne
