I need to buy a new EBH for my 2006 scion xb. A month a go I went to plug it in and sparks came out above the plug. I have not used it since. After closer inspection I noticed some cracks in the plastic. Can any one direct me to the proper order number/location where to buy?. i think last time I ordered it was a group buy/ discount. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sorry for being a away so long. I just got married and life is more hectic than ever.

It should be the same block heater. Your block is the same one in the 04 to 09 Prius.

Before you put in the new one, have you tested the one that's broken?

If it's just a break in the wire near the plug, that can be repaired easily.
Un-repairable would be some kind of short in the heater itself.
I'd suggest taking apart the plug looking at the damage and measuring the resistance of the heater.

Send me a PM if you have additional questions...

There is a very good probability Joel's suggestions will work. The one element of a block heater that takes a lot of wear-and-tear is the plug. Especially since it's too easy to drive off with out unplugging, lots of stress at that point.

I did purchase a new EBH fo my xb but will fix the old one. My play is to install it on my wife's car.
How do I go about fixing the old plug?

To fix a plug, go to a hardware store and buy a replacement plug with the same number of prongs.
Cut the old plug off the wire and save it until your fix is complete.
Remove 2 to 3 inches of the outer covering from the cord. You should find either 2 or 3 wires inside the cover, hopefully two of them have black and white covers.
If there's a third wire it will usually be either uncovered or have a green cover.
Remove about 3/4 inch of the plastic covering from each wire.
The way you attach the wire ends to the replacement plug varies depending on what type of plug you bought.
Figure out how it comes apart and feed your cord into it. Most will have a screw that you loosen and wrap the bare wire end around then re-tighten.
The trick is getting the correct wire on each screw.
The white wire goes to the screw that is connected to the wider of the two flat blades, (sometimes this screw will be silver-color) the black wire to the screw on the narrower blade (sometimes this screw will be brass color.)
If you have a third wire (either green or uncovered) that connects to the screw on the rounded prong.

Make sure none of the loose wire strands are touching a different screw or blade than the one they are supposed to, then put the plug back together.

Good luck!

Got the new ebh installed. It looks like it has several upgrades from the last model. It has a heat shield around half the body. It also has a different rubber neck than the old one. Still same great results. I just need to fix the old one!
