do you think they have any chance at all of survival in our communication obsessed world?
"Studies have brought out evidence to support the theory of colony collapse disorder (CCD) among honeybees due to bioactive microwave radiation from cell phones and their relay towers." - Dr. Mercola
honeybee's and cell phone towers (http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2009/11/07/Honeybees-Face-Towering-Threat-From-Cell-Phones.aspx)
If this is the reason for the decrease in honeybee populations then we are in big trouble. :( - Dale

The trail of references in this article gives me zero confidence in the claim.
If cell tower signals are the primary cause of CCD, then there should be plenty of agricultural locations in the U.S. where cell tower signals are absent or extremely weak, allowing a good study of this claim. But so far, I've heard no hints that those areas are suffering any less CCD.

Cell phones were placed near beehives. These hives collapsed totally in 5 to 10 days, with the worker bees failing to return to their homes.
Is anyone here a bee keeper? Do you know one? Do they have a cell phone? That would pretty much clear it up for me. - Dale

I went searching:
It looks like this was called the disappearing disease (http://www.orsba.org/htdocs/download/Dtew.htm) back about 100 years ago. A little before the first cell phones.
Thanks fuzzy for raising suspicion. :eyebrow: - Dale

Anything posted by "Dr." Mercola is suspect. His agenda is to sell his products, and he frequently contradicts his own claims when supporting different products.
Mercola is best known for arguing against vaccinations. Considering that vaccinations eliminated Smallpox and have protected millions of us against Polio, Diphtheria, Measles, etc., listening to the man is dangerous to your health.

I'm not sure how much I buy the whole "bees disappearing" thing. There seems to be a crapload of them here in San Antonio. There's always bees out on my little apartment porch doing their thing with my flowers.

The 'center of mass' of scientific opinion on CCD seems to have shifted from Israeli paralytic virus back to good ol' Nosema mites. But it is by no means unanimous.
Electromagnetic radiation was never a serious contender I'd say. Drimport is quite correct to say that similar patterns are in the history books, so we'd better attend to 'natural' causes.
