The biggest rivalry of our time is Colts vs Patriots....NE won the first 7 or so - now Indy has won about as many.
Last night, the Pats started out with a big lead, but the Colts were coming back.
With about 2 minutes left and 4th down on the NE 29, they could have punted and made Indianapolis go 70-80 yards to win. Instead, Belichick goes for it on 4th and 2...had they made it would seem like they still have a jinx on the Colts and hand them their 1st defeat of the season. Instead, they failed and Payton won the game in the final seconds. A reporter was shoved away from Belichick as he jogged to the locker room.
The article below likens this to Barry Switzer having the Cowboys going on 4th down in Philadelphia in 95, but Belichick is no Bozo. Bad call? Probably. But to compare Belichick with Switzer?! Switzer got his Super Bowl on Jimmy Johnson's work - Belichick won three with a much more solid body of work - Spygate not withstanding. A future Hall of Fame coach had a duh moment.
PFT: Belichick’s decision could have long-term ramifications (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/11/16/wee-ten-morning-aftermath-colts-35-patriots-34)
