Hi Tarabell:

___Here in IL., we had some Republican’s accusing a certain democrat of being a Polosi wannabe. Then I see she was all over the news today as the new Majority leader of the house. She seemed to handle all the questions directed smoothly and I wonder what your thoughts on her are? She is probably not from your district but being from CA. possibly gives you a better idea as to her leanings on many issues vs. this Illini? I am thinking Senator Barack Obama (D- IL.) is still to new to handle the presidency in 08 and Hillary might turn some from the Red States off a bit. Battling the female as president issue is an uphill battle but I was impressed with Polosi from the scant 10 minutes worth of wrangling I saw of her today.

___A ticket with either Hillary or Polosi w/ Obama as the VP would be pretty strong when the time comes imho …

___Good Luck

From watching from a conservative vantage and from IL. I would say she is similar to Gephardt. She is a vicious attack dog with no real plans other than "Bush is satan".

But I'm biased and not from CA. I'd like to hear from Tarabell on this one as well. Who knows I could just be listenting to the wrong speaches.

I must be listening to the same speeches as you because I'm thinking kind of the same thing about Polosi. Whether or not you believe Bush is satan, it's not much to base tour plan of action on.

___Sounds just like Bush, Rove, Rumsfeld, Hastert, Foley, and the “Contingent” ;)

___Just wondering is all as she came across really smooth on the tube today.

(except Xcel) You all should be ashamed of yourselves. Just because your party didn't win doesn't make Nancy Pilosi (the first female Speaker of the House) an "out of control" politician. She has gumption, bravery, and leadership -- something the Democratic Party needs right now as they take-on a very important time in our History.

I also take offense when the term "Liberal" is used as a derogatory remark -- it's a position. The people have spoken for change, and Liberal or not, we're sick and tired of the current administration. I consider myself a "Liberal" or "Progressive": does that make me instantly unlikeable?

The goal is, and will be, to work TOGETHER to get some important issues resolved. I'm looking forward to that. If you can't handle it, write your Congress-person like I have the last 6 years.

I expect better environmental (read EFFICIENCY: autos, etc.) to come from this leadership. Of all the people, I cannot fathom why all of you don't see this as a great opportunity for the cause of increasing Fuel Economy. A more environmentally-friendly party will form new Committees and all should benefit.

That's my take. I'm willing to work with the other aisle if we get some REAL issues tackled. Are you?

Well, when I listen to her talk I get an impression of her that is not favorable. We will have to wait and see how she does. I have a favorable opinion of Obama and last I checked he was on the left side of the isle. Obviously we all have our biases, but I really have to say that It isn't any position she holds that makes me not like her. It is her personality and her "blame game" attitude.

A good point was made about the importance of presenting a plan to the public, be it the New Deal, the Great Society, Contract With America....in the long run the party in power must transend "we are not the other guys" to a vision. Of course, we have a divided government so it might get really nasty....

As a rep. I by no means woke up this morning upset that power has shifted. I was kinda of glad to see it. Politics runs in cycles. I for one dont know why folks get soooo upset over these kinda swings. Kick back work with and thru what you can. Your party or people will get there chance back up at bat.

Its the dem's time again. Yes the next president will more than likely be a dem. And i would like to see a lady secure the office. But as a person that lived in Arkansas under the Clintons. I sure hope it isnt her.

As for the statesperson Polosi. I truley hope she turns into a real leader. But all Ive seen of her in the last few years is the gang of four mess. Polosi, Dean, Clinton and Kerry.

Polosi and Kerry have both been looked into about there green preaching and pratices. they have talked a good talk, but havent shown they can do the walk. Then you have Clinton and Dean yelling there fool heads off like spoiled brats on a play ground.

Is this going to be our next great dem. admin.? Is the gang of four and the dem's. disire to take back the white house going to work? Are we seeing a great FDR or JFK type thing before our eyes? I for one hope so.

Please keep in mind. If you dont like whats happening throw your hat in the ring and get on a platform and run for office. Or work at the grass root level.

As for the enviroment, pollution, gas guzzlers and all that mess. It took us a 100 years to get into this mess. Big change and the realsation of that change wont be seen for 200 or maybe even 300 years. Its very sad but true. And no political party is going to fix it. For every extreme green there is, theres 5 exterme waisters. This will change. It will have to change. But it will take time.

So lets roll up our sleeves and start hashing it out with our leaders. It wont be fun and in many cases painful. But in the long run it will work...

Hi Rich:

___Thanks for your other side of the aisle commentary. Yesterday was the first time in my life I voted a straight Democratic ticket and I am actually proud of it for the future of our country.

___I thought the Republican’s had a good shot at taking us in a more sustainable position way back in 2000 looking forward but they lost their way and started spending like drunken fools ruining the deficit reduction progress achieved over the previous 5 + years under a democratic presidency. Tax cuts for the very wealthy have not improved our countries financial stability by any means with all the deficit overhang that will have to be paid one way or the other …

___As it stands, the democrats have only achieved a slight margin in the house and maybe the senate if you consider the moderate republicans and independents. This does not allow a significant change in policy as the house and senate can still be gridlocked with any number of procedures from the new slight minority.

___Let us all hope there was enough of a change to get things moving in a better direction then where we were headed last week.

___Good Luck

What a terrifying call out on the forums, and it’s a political issue no less. You know I never even heard of Pelosi before that 60 Minutes interview a couple weeks ago. Even though she was a congresswoman in my state the last 20 years or so. But I did really like how she came across, and now last night saw a couple other interviews that backed up my first impression. My take is, no it isn’t “personal” with Bush, although she’s not short on attacks. She’s clearly not about impeachment, but will not back down on keeping the light focused on him as the guy in charge. As she said, this isn’t a teaparty and she’s not going to softball what have been some of the incredibly bad consequences and outcomes under his watch. Which I think is fair. I just don’t personally see her plotting any reckless revenge against the GOP. My sense is, she is going to make a great adult-in-charge of that place and she has the cajones. Let’s see what she does.

I don't think Hilary really has a chance unfortunately—there’s too much baggage and lingering enemies that will drag her down. Obama came to LA recently and boy is he popular around here. But I haven’t heard enough of him to form any judgments. Someone to watch though.
