Hi All:

___I am hoping someone here has seen a study on the possibility of Hawaii using its Sugar Cane crop to produce Ethanol in order to become self sufficient? Given Brazil can produce Ethanol for ~ $0.60/gallon on its own Sugar Cane crop, why not Hawaii? It already has a large Sugar Cane production although probably not anywhere near large enough to supply its transportation needs. Another issue may be land costs? Just wondering is all given Brazil is knocking on the oil independence door and with Ethanol from Sugar Cane being so inexpensive, all Hawaii would need is the E100 capable vehicles to run off their own supply?

___Gasoline is currently averaging $2.77 per in the Honolulu area as of this morning.

Hi Sledge:

___Excellent link and thank you! It looks like if they could get the water rights worked out, they may have a viable solution. Next would be the water itself however? I wonder if the use means in and then out? If so, it could be run back to the 67 golf courses per 10,000 acres of Sugar Cane equivalent? 500 golf courses or energy independence. I guess we know what the answer to that question is :(

___Good Luck
