What Do You Thing About Britain's Stern Report on Climate Change?

Excepts:

Carbon emissions have already pushed up global temperatures by half a degree Celsius
If no action is taken on emissions, there is more than a 75% chance of global temperatures rising between two and three degrees Celsius over the next 50 years
There is a 50% chance that average global temperatures could rise by five degrees Celsius

Based on what I have read, the best case scenario is that we are at the tipping point right now. It's that or we have already gone beyond the point where things tumble downhill like a boulder. The problem is the number of positive feedback mechanisms associated with global warming. I'm no expert in the field, though.

Either way, we have a responsibility to pull our heads out of our rears and do something about it. The planet will survive over the long haul but it would be nice if we could avoid the devastation that we could see in our own lifetimes. Sometimes I wonder if global warming and rapid climate change aren't just the Earth's way of "dealing" with a species that becomes way too dominant, and way too out of tune with the rest of the ecosystem.

Hope this poll was made decently and covered the main points of view.

Fortunately the majority of members here agree our cheap oil is running out.

Climate Change is a bit more controversial.

I voted we have 10-15 years, but am pessistimistic it will be addressed seriously enough.

I think we will be able to rectify anything that happens as far as global warming. The problem is how much will it cost and how much work will it be to get things back.

As the saying goes "A stitch in time saves nine."

I believe we will survive, but it won't be pretty.

I expect a loss of forests and species during a slow turnaround.
