Add Jaguar Land Rover and Volkswagen to the list of carmakers that have signed contracts with Johnson Controls Inc. for lithium-ion batteries.
The two European automakers have signed development agreements with the Glendale firm, which makes lithium-ion batteries through its joint venture with the French battery technology firm Saft.
The contracts involving Jaguar Land Rover and Volkswagen are development contracts, and more details about the deals will be announced later, said company Chairman Steve Roell during a conference call with investment analysts Tuesday.
Development contracts involve work with automakers for possible future vehicles, as opposed to production contracts for vehicles that are about to hit the road.
