Piston-engined aircraft > supercharged piston aircraft > turboprops > turbojets
Try this....
ICE vehicles > gas/electric hybrids > plug-in hybrids > fuel cell vehicles (distant future)
Trying to say technology is like a slow winding river, progressing a little at a time.
