So some lawyers are going to make a killing and HCH owners are going to get $100?

I thought the EPA set the standards, shouldn't they be held liable?

I didn't read the legal jibberish to find out any details, maybe I don't understand the argument.

If you read through the garbage and Google the originator of the class action, the guy who is a jazz pianist who averaged 32 mpg over 10,000 miles.

If he got 32 mpg in a HCH, what would have gotten in a standard Honda Civic? About 15 mpg?

I can't actually read the article, but was he hauling around a piano to get that kind of FE?!?

I don't think I could get that low in a HCH if I tried.

Yup, I got mine. Looks like another of those wacked-out lawyer jobs to steal money from large corporations legally. The settlement is almost totally worthless, all anyone will get is a stupid DVD on how to improve your mileage! What a CROCK!

You have to WAIT until you are approved as a member of the class or you lose your ability to claim under the settlement. I sold my 2008 (to the insurance co, after it got wrecked) so I get no claim. I bought ANOTHER HCH-II, a 2009, so I can't get a claim on that, either. If I'd bought a NON-hybrid civic, that would be OK, but a hybrid disqualifies me.

What will happen is all the conditions pare the tree down to about 5 members, and then the lawyers end up taking the rest of the X-million $ award home themselves.
Somebody ought to put a stop to these highly manipulated class action suits.

Anyway, I ought to be disqualified anyway, as I'm getting well over EPA sticker mileage, anyway. I get ~52 on a full-tank average in mixed city/hwy driving, on E10 gasohol.

OK, now I really want to know, how the HELL did he get a piano inside a Civic?
Or, did he strap it to the roof? After my daughter sheared off a power pole in my HCH-II, I will believe the roof could actually support a piano, but yes, it would really trash the aerodynamics.

The weight of the piano should have invalidated getting the EPA as that's definitely not normal driving.

On the bright side, these dissatisfied owners will at least be brought to the water to drink of gas mileage optimization...on the other hand again you can't force them to drink.

This suit won't go anywhere ... Honda is merely advertising the ratings obtained by the government under controlled tests. It's not like Honda made up the numbers on their own.

There have been suits like this before, and they never amount to much. Both the EPA website and all mpg advertising says "Your mileage may vary" in bold letters for a reason.

If the suit does get any traction, maybe some HCH owners on this forum could be recruited as expert witnesses, to testify against the claimants who can't figure out that their driving habits are the reason they're not getting the rated mpg.

Exactly. The only thing the EPA tests are telling you is, "If you drive exactly like this, you'll get XZY mpg." And for any other type of driving, there's the YMMV disclaimer. It's good for comparing vehicles, not a guarantee. If you got 22 mpg in your old 30-rated car, then your shiny new 43-rated car will likely give you about 31 mpg.
