That is the prospect faced by the organizers of this year’s Bologna auto show, Italy’s only major auto show. But the organizers refuse to cancel the event, even though no automakers remain committed to displaying production or concept cars there.
Fiat Group, Italy’s automotive giant, made the decision on Sept. 22 to pull out of its home show. By Oct. 2, every other major automaker had followed suit.
“The decision was based purely on cost savings,” Richard Gadeselli, a Fiat spokesman, said Thursday in an e-mail message.
