2011 Fiesta in “Lime Squeeze” adding youth and vitality to the downtrodden automobile marketplace.

Fashion magazines are heralding bright colors this fall and bold shades are being offered in an increasing array of consumer products – from laptop computers to vacuums to stand mixers for the kitchen.

Ford is experiencing the trend, too. While black, white and silver still remain top choices, Ford is seeing strong US sales of new vehicles offered in bright colors with high demand for vivid vehicle colors such as the 2010 Mustang in “Grabber Blue” and the F-150 SVT Raptor in “Molten Orange.” When the 2011 Ford Fiesta goes on sale next summer, consumers will have bright colors to choose from, including “Bright Magenta” and “Lime Squeeze.”

“Brilliant colors are transforming the norms in how we think about all sorts of products, allowing people to express individuality more and more through the electronics they use and the cars they drive,” said Susan Swek, Ford group chief designer, Color and Materials Design. “Color is a simple way to allow people to add a personal touch to their everyday lives – something that speaks to them and expresses a little of their personality.”

In the U.S. already, Ford is seeing strong sales for cars in brilliant colors:
Nearly four in 10 (39 percent) customers purchasing the new Ford F-150 SVT Raptor are choosing “Molten Orange.”

New “Grabber Blue” Ford Mustangs are exceeding sales projections, accounting for roughly 10 percent of total 2010 Mustang sales so far.
The Ford Fiesta is coming to the United States with even bolder colors after seeing drivers around the globe gravitate to a palette of brilliant hues:
In Asia, Fiesta buyers’ third most favorite color (15 percent of sales) is an eye-popping blue called “Vision,” followed by the lime green “Squeeze” (11 percent) with the top selling color being “Moondust Silver.” In China, nearly three in 10 (28 percent) Fiestas purchased are “Passion Orange,” making it far and away the favorite choice.

Right behind “Panther Black” and “Silver”, Europeans are selecting “Hot Magenta” and “Vision” as their third and fourth most favorite colors, each accounting for about 10 percent of sales across Europe.
In fact, for the first time with any Ford vehicle in Europe, Fiesta buyers are saying that vehicle color was among the top 10 reasons for purchasing the car, according to Ford research.

Since May, 100 Fiesta agents have traveled more than 800,000 miles around the country, primarily driving “Hot Magenta” and “Squeeze” colored Fiestas as part of Ford’s Fiesta Movement (www.fiestamovement.com). The Euro-spec Fiestas are turning heads with their bold colors.

“Almost everywhere I go, someone comments on the color,” said Fiesta agent Hilary McHone of her Squeeze-colored car. “Women love it, and some people even show me how it matches their cell phone.”

McHone, a Brooklyn photographer, adds, “It makes me think of spring. There’s a lot of life in it. I think people are excited about having more color options these days. It allows people to express their personalities more.” McHone likes her Fiesta color so much, she had her wedding dress made this summer to match the lime green.

Which color gets the best FE? That's what's important around here.

Loving the magenta! I'm still not sure about the Lime, just like I feel about the Citrus on the insight-1.

Well, my experience tends to indicate blue as a very efficient color. ;)

Well, it seems that white gets pretty good mileage. ;) However, maybe new advances in technology have superseded that - both examples we see here are 14+ years old.

I'd like to see a Fiesta of any color on the local Ford dealer's lot. When will that happen?

AMEN. I am SO sick of a thousand shades of gray and silver.

Now the challenge would be finding one. If you try to shop off a dealer lot, the dealers only stock "safe" colors. If you actually want to buy a car in a vibrant color, you usually have to do a dealer swap or order one.

Harry- I have read in multiple sources over the course of several months now that the Fiesta is due to arrive sometime in the early part of 2010. It's not surprising that they don't have an exact release date yet since they're re-tooling a plant to build it in.

I hear you, aca2983. I'm tired of all the color choices that aren't really even colors (gray/silver/white/champagne) that have been popular for so long. Americans seem to have gotten so cautious in their buying habits they rarely seem to be able to choose the most innocuous actual color (i.e., blue) anymore.

I like my Jetta, but a real color would have been nice instead of the silver that everyone went so ga-ga over. Fortunately our Golf is Flash Red, about the brightest, hottest red imaginable and if it's clean it gives off a hint of violet/magenta in the right light. Love it. I really like the new Ford colors -- as well as the Insight Citrus and the fun green colors Honda used to offer on the Insight, Mk6 Civic hatch and Del Sol (as VW also did/does on the Beetle). Since I'm not a chronic speeder, I'm not looking to lay low and avoid notice by the cops anyway.

I am a chronic used-car buyer though, so I'm always at the mercy of new-car buyers' decisions 5 years in the past. So thanks for at least offering the fun colors Ford -- now let's hope people actually buy them!

Darker paint has been shown to increase body temperature:

marginally. Not clear on effect on engine temperature.

A lime green one with city buildings painted on the side came through my town today. How exciting! I can't wait to see more of them on the road!

I saw this one on the road in Corte Madera, CA a couple of months ago.

There is another red one parked here in Bellingham, WA almost every day. Looks nice. A little too round for my taste.

I DROVE THIS ONE!!!!!!!!

And he had a ScanGauge. :D:D

7 miles, on hilly roads, 40.5 MPG! I wasn't trying very hard, because I was 'playing' with the car.

It was a FABULOUS experience! I'm still stoked that I got to meet a Fiesta Movement agent, let alone drive one, let alone THIS one!

You may have, he was basically the only Fiesta Movement agent running a ScanGauge on top of the built-in instrumentation.

I'm just THRILLED that I was able to see/meet one!

Hi Nevyn:

___Less than a month ago in fact :)

Fiesta Movement agents alive and kicking. (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24577)

___Glad to hear you enjoyed it and I cannot wait until they finally arrive.

___An item I have been thinking about since the first agent received his or her Fiesta... I wonder if Ford will give 100 new Fiesta's to the agents for free once the US spec'ed Fiesta's are available?

___Good Luck

It *IS* a good question. Seth Beck, aka Fiestavus, that I met up with, was telling me about another agent called BrooklynHillary. She had NEVER had a car before the Fiesta, no driver's license, NOTHING. Now, with only a month left, she's almost in tears to give up her Fiesta.

Hi Tjts1:

___I found your particular Fiesta agent and here is his (their?) story...

http://www.youtube.com/v/eRMa1ZJoJfk&hl=en&fs=1Parallel Parking

Thomas and Whit have been goofing off together long enough to know they could create content to entertain viewers – and tell about their adventures in a Fiesta at the same time. The San Francisco residents work at the same Web company, Seesmic, and use their passion for social media daily.

Whit first became passionate about social media during a trip around the world where he started blogging and creating videos to document the adventure. After returning, he found work as a video editor for a television show and eventually became producer of a show, bringing him further into social media. Thomas always has had his hand in social media, as he began making Web sites in 1998, which turned into designing blogs, forums and social communities. After becoming especially interested in online community groups, Thomas found a job doing exactly what he loves.

After receiving a tip from their boss about Fiesta Movement, they thought they had nothing to lose and made an application video. Their work paid off, as they were chosen to be one of Ford’s 100 official Fiesta Movement agents; soon they were on their way to their first mission, Lonely Planet in Oakland, Calif., to interview one of its globetrotting employees. While visiting, they were directed to obtain books and maps that would take them on adventures all along the West Coast. After the interview, they had all they needed to map out their adventures for the rest of the mission.

Their experiences with Fiesta have not disappointed. In fact, they have even found that cruising on a windy highway in the mountains is more enjoyable in a Fiesta than a Porsche Carrera. They’ve even bumped into other Fiesta Movement agents in San Francisco, and they have big plans for their Ford Fiesta – including taking it along to a bachelor party and wedding for Whit.

___Good Luck

I've met Hilary, and her Fiesta, and the Squeeze Green looks awesome! Her's also has yellow spots on the rear quarters and it reminds me of lemon-lime soda. It looks real cool.

The Hot Magenta is definitely my favorite though. It can look maroon in some light or hot pink in other lights.
