I just did a 1,200 mile trip in my Aspen Hybrid. It was in the mountains of Banff/Jasper.

I averaged across the trip 30 mpg (imperial gallon) driving at road speed the way I normally drive any car.

Not bad for a car that weights almost 3 tons with 8 seats and a 6000 lb towing capacity.

Last check is 32 mpg (imperial gallon) highway. 100 kilometres per hour, driving mostly normal, using the cruise control whenever possible.

It looks to be about 10% better on the hwy. Around town it looks to be the same.. as the Government estimates.

It seems to be about 50% better on the hwy than my Hemi powered 2003 Dodge 3/4 ton six passenger long box truck, which weighed almost the same. The Aspen also has the Hemi, but it has the Electric/4 cylinder/8cylender engine. It makes the same power when you put your foot into it.

I am very pleased with the Aspen so far. Easy to drive and very quiet.

My only complaint is that it would be nice to be able to have the option of Electric, Electric/four cylinder, or four cylender only.

Many of my trips are less than 2 or 3 miles at a time and on flat ground, electric would be all that is needed.

On the hwy, when it is just me, the four cylinders would be fine, or electric/four cylinders.

They have designed this for people who do not want to control the vehicle, so much as the press and go crowd.

I like to control all aspects of my vehicles. That comes from the motorcycle/truck driver in me.

It does have a tow option where it goes straight v/8, which is nice for trailer towing in the hills.

I am heading out on Thursday for 18 days and will be towing a 4,000 lb - 24 ft travel trailer from Cranbrook BC down towards the Oregon/California coast ending up in Yosemite and then home again.

Updates when I get back.
