I drove from Laurel, MD to Cape May, NJ and back in a 2008 Sienna with 5 passengers plus me and a bunch of gear. I used the A/c. Fortunately, the Sienna has an instant mpg gauge built in.
The trip totaled 377.1 miles, using 13.455 gallons. I earned 28.026 mpg. What a pleasant surprise!
I used the A/c and a lot of cruise. I didn't do pulse and glide, but I did do a lot of NICE-on coasting. DWB helped in the heavy traffic leaving the shore. Top speed was 65 but I did most of my driving at lower speeds. I did some shutting off at lights, but not every light. The gauge in the car was a huge help, especially since it helped me to do gentle acceleration. I also tended to avoid using the resume function on the cruise control as it lead to more downshifts from overdrive.
Great people mover!
