Walked around the rear of the HCHII today to see the paint chipping away around the rear deck lid spoiler. You would think Honda would have addressed this issue sometime ago. Also of note the paint is micro thin as normal.
I stopped by a dealer today and they pulled up the latest service bulletin for me dated March 30 2009. This one supersedes the January 16 2009 version of #09-003. And I'm sure it could be traced all the way back to the 06/07 HCHII's.
So I picked up a bottle of touch up paint while at the dealer. They would fix it under warranty. But seeing Honda has not been able to get it right since the cars launch I will tend to it myself. You would have thought they would have given me a bottle of paint seeing that Hondas engineers are not smart enough to figure out a way to design and mount a spoiler. I'm sure they are way over paid also.
So you 09 HCHII owners out there,,, check your spoilers! Honda does not learn well from past mistakes.:eyebrow:

Weird. I remember reading about that when the HCHII first came out. Is there play in the spoiler that causes it to chatter or what?

brick it's just a bad design and execution. It's really akin to a cheap ebay spoiler. I will take the hunk of junk off, fix the paint and put it back on with 3M tape.
They did the same stupid thing with the front cowl on my 06 EX. After the dealer fix and replaced on it two or three times I took the 3M tape to it and ended that episode in horrid Honda engineering.
See when Honda screws something up now day's there as bad as the Germans at never getting it fixed. Just ask any 7th or 8th gen Accord owner that has a rattle trap of a car. Honda will put out TSB's and sometimes they work. But for bad rattles and such, more times than not you can trace them to bad spot welds. While our Accord was rattle and squeak free I've personally re-welded several car's for folks at no cost cause Honda won't admit to a problem, much less fix it.
Same thing with this spoiler. Just bad engineering and execution.

No problem. Booked up this weekend. Have Arlie trip to Little Rock Tuesday. So I'm hooked up. Should be a cake walk and a much better repair than a dealer hack job. Z

IMO the difference with a Honda is the paint chips, the front comes a little loose, there's a little rattle, the door takes a little extra tug to open, etc compared with the timing belt snapping while you're on the interstate leaving you stranded and a huge repair bill, as takes place with some other car manufacturers.

My Mazda did that to me three times :mad:
Odd, I've had my 2006 for almost 3 years now with over 37k miles and (knock on wood) no rattles and no paint issue around spoiler. Just recalls taken care of and the rear upper control arms replaced, which really wasn't hurting my tires, but still made a slight roaring sound.
I guess I got a "good" one.

Sadly or not, those traits are unknown to me. :)
Besides, the HCH-II has a timing chain.
Hi Jess;
Yes, I and my "compadres" in my area must also have the "good ones" with no issues whatsoever. We also have commercial fleets of HCH-II's (in the hundreds) that also exhibit no such discrepancies. Oh well.
Did I mention that my 2006 is going to remain in my stable for a good while longer? With this said, these issues are real and owners should definitely take it up with the dealers to have them resolved especially if the respective TSBs have been out for so long.
Cheers;
