I posted last week that I had a display FE of 50.1, with 2 bars of fuel and no fuel light on. Well, the next time I got in my car to drive, it was 35F. I showed 1 bar of fuel and my low fuel light was on, even though I hadn't driven the car in a couple days. My last fuel square disappeared less than a mile into my commute, so I pulled into a gas station and filled up. I put 10.4 gallons in, my display was still reading 49.8 MPG. However, calculated at the pump, my FE was only 49.2 MPG. The only thing I can think of is that the temp drop caused the gas to constrict in volume, so that I ended up putting in more than I should have.
I've never seen a lower calculated FE than display before, my calculated has always been higher. Either way, it ruined what was my best tank ever before I had to fill up.
Arrrrgggg.....
