2010 BMW F 800 R - CF Edition - fast and fuel efficient.
With the BMW F 800 R, BMW Motorrad expands its F 800 model series lineup for 2009. The sporty roadster provides a high level of riding dynamics for the middle displacement capacity of Roadster style bikes. In addition to the two roadsters R 1200 R and K 1300 R, the 800 R was the third BMW roadster to see its international premiere in the BMW Motorrad Urban world of experience.
But it wasn’t just on public roads that the dynamic BMW F 800 R made a name for itself. The extreme ease of handling which the F 800 R allows its rider was demonstrated by four-time World and European Stunt-Riding Champion, Chris Pfeiffer, on an F 800 S specially adapted to his needs and closely resembling the later F 800 R. Since the official launch of this F 800 R in November 2008 in Milan, motorcycle acrobat Chris Pfeiffer has now been riding the new F 800 R at international competitions and shows – on a version which is only distinguished from the serial production machine in minor detail.
Through 2008, Chris took part in 85-days of stunt shows and contests and this year, his schedule is equally booked.
“No matter whether it’s about me as an individual, as a freestyle rider or as a racing rider, it’s always a question of being creative and showing the audience new, exciting things,” said Chris. “It is simply amazing when the crowd starts to cheer even before you’ve started. I really appreciate the great support provided by BMW. For me, the F 800 R is simply the perfect stunt motorcycle – as demonstrated by recent successes.”
All this was reason enough for BMW Motorrad to mark Chris Pfeiffer’s success on the new F 800 R by bringing out a special model, the BMW F 800 R - Chris Pfeiffer edition which closely resembles his competition bike. In addition there are the elaborate paint work, the special edition sports an Akrapović® muffler to enhance the motorcycle’s sporty style. The basic technical characteristics remain unchanged from the standard R model.
The engine in the F 800 R Chris Pfeiffer is again the liquid-cooled parallel twin with 4-valve technology. As in the F 800 R, the in-line 2-cylinder engine provides impressive pulling power, spontaneous response and a excellent fuel economy.
Even in the lower engine RPM range, the 4-valve engine builds up to 90 percent of maximum torque at 5,000 rpm. With a nominal output of 87 HP at 8,000 rpm, the engine produces a torque of 63 lb.-ft at 6,000 rpm.
In its design, the F 800 R Chris Pfeiffer edition is finished in the BMW Motorsport colors of Alpine White non-metallic, Lupine Blue metallic, Magma Red non-metallic and Black silk matt contrasting the black drivetrain and swing arm. A white front wheel completes the “look”. The bike lacks a fairing emphasizing the purist Roadster character of this special model.
Features which contribute to the exceptional dynamic performance in the F 800 R are the low weight of just 440 pounds fully fuelled, shorter ratios and the chassis is tweaked to meet the demands of a Roadster rider.
The new F 800 R Chris Pfeiffer comes equipped with the Akrapović® rear silencer offering reduced weight and throatier sound. LED direction indicators (for Canada: white direction indicators) contribute to the appearance of this special model.
The market launch will begin in September 2009.
