We do not hear much about the TCH as of late given the Fusion Hybrid tsunami but here is a perfect example of a hybrid being used exactly as it should be. By local officers. -- Ed.
The Arkadelphia City Board of Directors on Thursday night accepted a low bid for 10 new, fully-equipped 2010 Toyota Camry Hybrids for use by the police department...
Toyota of Fayetteville out of Benton submitted the lowest bid of $31,617 for each new police car. They are four-door sedans, and meet all specifications, Harris said.
The city has been awarded a grant from the USDA covering 15 percent of the cost of the Hybrids. City Manager Jimmy Bolt said Friday the city is still working on finishing up all “financial aspects” before purchase will be made. He said he did not know when the city will take possession of the Hybrids, “but I don’t think it will be longer than three months.”
The Hybrids will be “officer-assigned,” Bolt said. The city plans for each officer to be able to drive their patrol car home. Bolt said the city would benefit from the “concept” financially and there will be “increased visibility” of the patrol cars on the street.
