Hey Ya'll. new guy here to the forum. Just bought my first fuel economy car. 07 Accord 4cyl 5spd. Loving it so far. I do all my own mechanic work, I'm a Ex Hot-rodder, 4x4 nut and so on. Looking to maxamize the MPG's from this car. I'm going over everything mechaincally and making sure I'm within factory Specs; IE the PCV, Idle, vacuum, compression, E-brake, bearing drag, OEM Spark plugs Etc.

My first tank of fuel gave me 29.4 mpg calculating it by hand based on how much gas I put back in. I normally fill it up til it clicks 2x. So if I fill it up, drive 350 miles and then fill up with X gallons I take the 350/X=mpg for that tank.

Any other '03-'08 Accord folks out there with tips? I've been debating buying a Scan Gauge b/c my car does not have a MPG meter.

Some things I'm working on already:
-I am installing a set of Factory size Goodyear Assurance Fuel max tires this Sat. they weigh in at 19#/ea vs the OEM Bridgestone Turanza which weights 22#/ea.

-Running tires at door placard pressure. 32/30 cold psi. Once I get my new tires on I will be doing a Paint marking wear pattern. Inflate tires to max tire cold psi. paint strips across the tread and down the shoulder. drive it around for about 1 mile and see what kind of wear pattern I'm getting. I learned this trick from the 4x4 world. that's how I figured out how much pressure to run in my 4x4's with big tires/rims. In other words I run as much pressure as possible to give me a good wear pattern, but not more than the tire's max rating. I do this for the front, and rear independantly for obvoius reasons; the cars weight is distributed unevenly F/R.

I agree. It will easily pay for itself by educating you how to drive efficiently.

That's a nice car, too.
