It was just two weeks ago that we reported GM was planning a small Buick SUV PHEV (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24091) in lieu of the now defunct Saturn VUE PHEV. And so it was expected with a teaser shot and even basic descriptions. That was until yesterday...

According to Tom Stephens, GM’s Vice Chairman, the Buick crossover received consistent negative feedback in that it didn’t fit the premium character that Buick customers would expect.

Tom stated, “We were all struck by the consistency of the criticism of the compact crossover. And what we decided to do in response is a good example of the essence of the new General Motors, acting quickly, and boldly, and listening to feedback from customers, employees, dealers, media and just about anyone else with an opinion.”

Last Friday, initial negative reaction to the Buick PHEV was discussed amongst the Executive Committee and it was decided at that time that the Buick PHEV crossover would be canceled.

The committee did reveal that the PHEV technology would be applied to another make/model but in this case, the Buick lineup will stay conventionally powered for the time being.

In the past, a decision to cancel a car line would have taken months. The new GM pulled it off in just one day.

The question remains however, what will GM offer to the average consumer in the near term so as to stem the market share and overall vehicle production declines experienced the prior four years? The somewhat profitable Crossover is meeting as much consumer resistance as the SUVs of old did and sales declines of this type of vehicle will continue with gasoline nearing $3.00 per gallon nationwide.

So they cancelled a car because of a badge?!?

Why don't they just make it a Chevy?

DER!

You mean they couldn't hype up the market like they did for the regular guzzlers? I guess it wasn't worth it for them.

I wonder what they know about the 2-mode that they aren't telling us. With 250-300hp and silent electric-only driving around town, how can that not be "Buick"? I think the 2-mode would be fine for a Buick, and if Cadillac can build an SRX from the same platform, it can certainly be built to a level that would satisfy the Buick crowd.
With only four brands, and Buick out of the running, and Cadillac out by default if the 2-mode is not worthy of the Buick name due to not having a premium character, only Chevy and GMC are left. And if Chevy gets the Volt and they want to give a plug-in model to another division, the only other possibility is to drop it into the GMC Terrainasaurus-Rex. Here's hoping they don't get feedback that PHEVs are not "Professional Grade".

Maybe it looked like an Aztek.

I can't even find a whole picture of it. The "teaser" picture shows all sorts of Pontiac plastic crap plastered all over a Saturn body with a Buick emblem.

Note to "new" GM: Remember the Cadillac Cimarron!

What douche designed that car? Does he still works at GM, and did you let him try and design again?

Oh, and thanks for going bankrupt and taking my stock to the toilet. I figure I will buy 10 to 15 more cars for me and my family before I stop driving. Guess what car company is last on my list!

Note to “new” GM: Douche! (I just like saying that word!)

Maybe it looked like an Aztek.Anyone notice the Aztek looks like a Prius by GM committee?

Maybe that's why GM had cold feet about hybrids. :p

Anyone notice the Aztek looks like a Prius by GM committee?

...Or a giant Lego Prius.
...Or a plastic Tonka Prius.
...Or Pablo Picasso's Buick Rendezvous.
