I like his focus on the behaviorial and spiritual aspect - that's where it begins. Commentable article --Ed.

Aside from the obvious benefits of self-preservation and safety, the government estimates you can increase your fuel efficiency by up to 33% (http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/driveHabits.shtml) by not driving aggressively. An independent study by Edmunds has savings all the way up to 37% (http://www.edmunds.com/advice/fueleconomy/articles/106842/article.html#test1). I don't know about you, but I wouldn't mind chopping a dollar off of every gallon of (expensive California) gas I buy simply by changing some bad habits.

What does this mean? Don't drive like a vengeful lunatic, no matter what other drivers are doing. Drive like Gandhi would have. If someone cuts you off, breathe and let it go. If another driver slows inappropriately because they're unsure of where they're going, and are driving like they're the only person on the road (as you can imagine, it happens quite a bit in L.A.), breathe and let it go.... http://www.examiner.com/x-19857-LA-Hypermiling-Examiner~y2009m8d14-Goonies-never-say-die-hypermilers-never-drive-aggressively

He also has a couple other articles on hypermiling which are also very interesting. CMPG needs to add hypermiling to it's vocabulary. I still get the little red line underneath it :).

Ricardo, if you are using Firefox it is referencing Google's dictionary. You can add it to your local "these are real words" list by using the context (right click) menu.

Highway 37 crash victims ID'd
Times-Herald staff report
Posted: 08/15/2009 01:00:48 AM PDT

A 49-year-old Vallejo woman died of fatal injuries Thursday afternoon after another Vallejo driver struck the back of her car on Highway 37 near Skaggs Island Road, police said Friday.

The woman, pronounced dead at the scene, was identified by the California Highway Patrol as Maria Rosa D. Reyes.

Four cars were involved in the subsequent pileup that occurred just before 4:30 p.m. and backed up traffic in both directions for about five hours, police said.

Gurbax Sunak, 57, of Vallejo, was reportedly driving eastbound behind Reyes at an unsafe speed at the time of the crash, according to CHP reports.

Sunak was not arrested or cited Friday, but an investigation into the incident continues and will be handed over to the Solano County District Attorney's office, the CHP reported.

Others involved in the crash, including one from San Anselmo and two people from Novato, reportedly received moderate or no injuries.
