Californians are already over $3.00 per with the entire West coast up $0.13 at $2.959 this week.

Crude Oil

New York – The most widely followed crude oil futures contract, West Texas Intermediate (WTI), held steady above the $70 mark on the NYMEX Thursday as continuing weakness in the dollar pushed speculators into energy related commodities. Crude oil for September delivery rose $0.36 to settle at $70.52.

On the other side of the scale, the U.S. Commerce Department's retail sales report for July showed Retail sales edging down 0.1% following a strong rise of 0.8% in June. The economy has not yet picked itself up off the floor leading to slack demand for the immediate future. This should lead to lower prices later this year although considering recent energy related price increases, little price relief at the pump may actually be in store.

Gasoline

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded rose nine cents in the past week, settling at $2.65 per gallon.

On the East Coast and in the Midwest, the average price moved up eight cents to $2.61 and $2.59 per gallon, respectively.

The average price for those living on the Gulf Coast rose nine cents to $2.52 per gallon, the lowest price of any other region in the country.

Showing a marked spike, those on the West Coat saw gasoline up over $0.13 to $2.95 per gallon. Similarly, Californians received a $0.14 price increase to an average price above $3.00 at $3.04 per gallon.

Diesel

The national average price for a gallon of diesel fuel increased eight cents to $2.63 per gallon.

Just like gasoline, the lowest overall cost goes to Gulf Coast residents who saw prices up $0.07 to $2.58 per gallon.

West Coasters experienced an average price increased of $0.06 to $2.70, while Californians again saw prices up $0.08 to $2.84 per gallon.

My fiance paid $2.35/gallon yesterday at the local sunoco. The actual price was $2.75, but she had a discount that a chain supermarket had going and got 40 cents off. :)

It's always nice to get that discount, but I would rather not have my food prices increased to give a discount on gas to someone with a long, solo commute in a FSP.

Well...They didn't increase their prices any more so than it's a joint venture between both companies. A loyalty discount if you will. This is somewhat insurance of continued customer base. It also lets them know and keep track of that main customer base. The more you buy, the more you save...I don't shop there though, as I find much cheaper alternatives all over. She doesn't either, she just happened to lend her store card to someone who got their total bill reduced for using that card. It was still a large order however.
