View Full Version : Another New FFH Owner
lxzndr 08-12-2009, 01:45 PM Been a member for a long time, just haven't visited in a long time. Thanks to the C.A.R.S (cash for clunkers) we now have a silver 2010 Fusion hybrid (moon and tunes package)
first tank wont be fully accurate as they had it full when we picked it up and I don't know how much it was moved and such during that time.
So far, after 300 miles, really like it. I'm going to miss the Insight when it gets sold though. We will also see how the MPG compare to the HCH we also have. Yes, at present we have 3 hybrids.
and... Hi Wayne, was nice to see you at HybridFest.
-Mike
Hi Mike:
___Welcome to CleanMPG and its great to see another Fusion Hybrid on the road! I suspect it will be the best in your fleet in terms of "want" to drive. Just make sure you driver her "nicely" and she will return the favor in kind :)
___I believe you are the fourth CleanMPG member that purchased a Hybrid during the C4C program. Another member purchased an FFH during the promotion period as well!
___Good Luck
___Wayne
AllenF 08-13-2009, 12:57 PM Add me to the new owner club and I also used the C.A.R.S. fund .
We have the FFH with the 502a package in Platinum White tri-coat. Aired up the tires to 44psi and tinted the windows so as to help keep it cooler and thus use the AC a bit less.
This one replaces our 2008 FEH awd which was totalled by a drunk driver last month. The FFH is much quieter and the ride is much more refined. Handles like it is on rails too. Coasting in neutral is like forever and it sure does like to return better mpg's while in neutral.
Sure hope we can avoid stupid drunk drivers with this one and we get to keep it a bit longer.
HybridFan 08-13-2009, 09:24 PM Congrats on your new Fusion Hybrid. I know you'll like it. I have enjoyed my first 3 weeks of ownership.
I have used 1/2 tank of fuel and just over 320 miles. The gauges tell me that I have 332 miles left in this tank. My F-150 is rolling over in its' grave tonight (lol).
lxzndr 08-17-2009, 10:59 AM I would like at least one more MPG meter in it. I know it gives a trip result, but that restarts every time you restart the car, so it doesn't carry over after a rest stop.
Would also be nice if I could see the long-term (lifetime?) without turning off the car to see the summary.
First tank results posted. I don't know at what mileage the dealer filled it up, we drove it at 120miles partial tank, picked it up at 150 showing full tank. 710 total miles on the car when we filled it with 13.103g, so low estimate is 560miles = 42.7mpg
I'm pretty pleased with that for first week of having it.
AllenF 08-17-2009, 01:08 PM I wish there was a way to see the trip statement after key off and I forget to look at it and once it is gone it is gone. It would be nice to see it by a button press or even better a history button to scroll through say the last 5 or 10 trips. I would even be glad to see the last one after it disappears from the dash LCD after key off.
There is no way we are getting anything like some here are getting in MPG's. About 36mpg with the air on almost all the time. which is 9 mpg better than the FEH awd we had. My wife drives this like any other car so she is the real world worse case. When I drive it I use N a lot and coast as often as possible. This returns much better mpg's for me. I am finding this in town is not very good especially for short trips. As low as 28mpg. Rarely over 35mpg. On hyw I get about 40-42mpg with the air on at about 65mph. This to me is great. My best trip was almost 59mpg no air and a lot of down hill coasting in N. over 15 miles. 1/2 on freeway at 65mph.
Still less than 1,000 miles so it is tight. I know it needs to have about 5,000 to settle in so I must be patient. We both really like this FFH and my in laws think it is better than their new Camry. I told them to wait but they did not. Oh well.
Right Lane Cruiser 08-17-2009, 01:23 PM Allen, when my friend was over with his FFH I was able to see the previous trip summary overlaid on that leaf display by keying on to IGN III. As long as I didn't crank it, it would stay up for a while.
AllenF 08-17-2009, 01:36 PM Thanks Sean I will give this a try. I am not using the leaf display but rather the 10 min instant fuel bars. Hope it works here too.
lxzndr 08-21-2009, 10:51 AM As long as you don't actually start the car, you can see the previous. I do by turning the key to on (not start) and then turning it back off after the displays have come up. Maybe they will come out with some update to give us MPG per trip meter if enough of us ask for it?
eburatti 08-31-2009, 04:26 PM Add me to the list of Fusion Hybrid owners! I just picked mine up Friday night, and already have 400 miles on it. So far, I LOVE it! What a nice car. Comfortable, pretty quick, yet great on fuel. First trip to work - 49MPG, which beats my 06 Civic 5-speed best of 45, so already it's a winner. Anyone have any super techniques worked out for this car yet?
Ranmasao12 09-02-2009, 10:09 AM New owner here as well! Looking forward to figuring out how to tweak the best MPG out of this vehicle.

Pulse and Glide is the best winner with "N" gliding in EV. Drive in EV as much as possible and get a SGII and program X-Gauge SoC. Learn the accelerator blip to restart the engine before the computer restarts the engine and drains the SoC way to much. I would estimate the accelerator blip restart is worth at least a plus 4mpg tank average for me. The SGII can give you percentage within a 10th of a percent and you need to learn when to shift to "N" and glide (the FEH is 40.8% SoC). It's all about timing and it's working great for me in both my '05 and '09 FEH. There is no reason it should not work in the FFH.

eburatti 09-22-2009, 08:54 PM Went through my first tank of gas. Mixed driving, city start-and-stop - right around 50MPG. Highway, around 40. Total tank average over 600+ miles was 44.2MPG. Took a trip on route 80, 75MPH for about two hours - 39MPG. This is a really BIG car, to be this good on gas. My wife likes the leaves. Can't even tell you how much I like this car.
AllenF 09-25-2009, 04:58 PM If you slow down on the freeway to 65mph you will see about 48-50 mpg without AC and about 42mpg with AC.
Seems that 65mph is the freeway sweet spot. Perhaps 45-50mph is the overall sweet spot.
I think opening the moon roof and the back windows about an inch each helps too. It sure keeps you cooled down up to 85*F without the need for AC. Not too noisy either.
AllenF 09-25-2009, 05:01 PM Should have said the freeway driving needs the cruise control on. I don't know what is going on but in our FFH if I drive constant 65 W/O CC it get a lot worse mpg's then with CC at the same speed. Wierd but true. So I always use CC if possible.
VonoreTn 09-29-2009, 01:22 PM Allen,
After you have turned the engine off, left the car, and remember that you forgot to check the mileage on that last trip....you can go back, turn the key to the 3rd position, just before start, wait for all the displays to settle out, then back the key off to position 2, and you will get the last trip data displayed again....
But once you hit the start key position, the last engine-on trip record is re-zeroed. I assume you are aware that there is also a trip mpg you can reset anytime, and it will record until you reset it.

Bought mine in July. Wife drives it to work in rush hour traffic like a regular car. Uses heat and air all the time. Still delivers 36 to 40 mpg. Speedometer quit at 4000 miles. Dealer mechanic plugged in scanner, got no error codes....system reset and it is fine now. Data block on single trip mpg will stay on display after trip if the key is turned one click toward off. Also if you forget to look you can start the car but not move and turn one click back and retrieve previous trip.
HybridFan 10-23-2009, 10:25 AM We took a 350 mile round trip recently and got 39 mpg with A/C on driving with cruise at 70 mph. On shorter freeway driving trips of 30 miles or so at about 63 mph and cc I have attained 44-45 mpg avg with the A/C on. I'm very satisfied that a 5 passenger car can get such good mpg.

There is a trip mpg now under info, that you can reset. I reset it at each gas fill up, but you could do it for any trip. The long term mpg can also be reset, if you go in one menu deeper. If you consider the mpg bars, the engine-on mpg, the trip mpg and the long term average, that's 4 mpg feedbacks. Plus you can keep a fill-up record as I do. Fill-ups come so seldom, it's not that much work ;-)
