2010 Toyota Prius-III - $22,000 to start, 50 mpgUS combined on the 08 EPA and one heck of an automobile.
The 2010 Toyota Prius’ debut in early June came with expectations of at least matching last years Prius-II sales. Although the bloom is off the rose given most reviews are now complete, the Prius was purchased at a rate exceeding initial Toyota expectations.
Toyota’s second generation Hybrid Synergy Drive is not only innovative but the technology and standard equipment delivers value beyond most in the hybrid marketplace. From this months sales figures, the consumer must know about the Prius’ value and has made it one of the best sellers of all vehicles in July.
Fuel Efficient Non-Hybrids
The “Big 7” fuel efficient non-hybrids sales saw an overall decline of 34.8 percent YTD vs. 2008. As has been the case the past two months, the decline was worse than the overall automobile market.
And again the back and forth battle for compact class sales supremacy between the Corolla and Civic continues. Three months ago, it was the Civic. Two months ago, the Corolla. Last month and now this, the Civic pulls to the top of the class by just 444 vehicles.
For July, the Civic saw 30,037 vehicles sold, an increase of 3.1 percent compared to July of 2008. For the year, Civic sales are off 36.2 percent.

For now the fifth month in a row, Honda Fit sales were off and this time by 27.6 percent in July with a total of 8,876 vehicles sold. For the year, sales are off 25.4 percent.
For the seventh month in a row, Mini’s sales have fallen. This month, 4,872 vehicles were sold, down 3.8 percent from to the same period a year ago. For the year, sales are off 18.1 percent.
Sales of the Chevrolet Aveo this month saw sales of 4,961 vehicles in July, down 31.2 percent vs. July of 2008. For the year, Aveo sales are off 55.3 percent.
The Smart Fortwo saw 1,418 new owners in July, down 44.6 percent compared to July of 2008.

The 2010 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan Hybrids had an excellent month with over 2,810 vehicles sold. This places the Fusion/Milan Hybrid at number 2 in Hybrid sales across in the country. We can expect this to continue through the foreseeable future as it these vehicles are really that good.
