When an 18-wheeler runs over the front of your car, it’s nice to have inexpensive insurance you can count on :D

There is no easy way to say it, car insurance costs more in 2009. According to Car Insurance (carinsurance.com) in 2009, national car insurance rates are 12.25% higher than they were in 2008; many states are seeing moderate pricing improvements even though number of miles traveled, accidents, fatalities and number of cars on the road have all fallen???

July saw an $8 increase in the national car insurance premium average. In June, the annual car insurance average for the U.S. was $1,804 and today, $1,812. In 2009 to date, the national average car insurance premium is $1,796, a 12.25% increase over 2008.

To help, CarInsurance promises to compare car insurance rates from multiple insurance companies immediately. Consumers see a comparison within 60 seconds with the rates coming directly from the insurance companies.

Insurance rate on the 2010 Prius.

$418 a "year" full coverage, that is not a typo.

The difference between my 87 Volvo turbo wagon with just liability and the new 2010 Prius is $202

I was paying $535 for the 87 with just liability and my 97 Volvo 960 with full coverage that is driven <12K miles a year.

With the new Prius and sending the 87 to the scrap yard my insurance will be $735 a year on both cars.

There is no way to complain on the slight increase in cost to my auto insurance buying a new Prius.

I agree.

But an average of $1,800 USD or more to insure a vehicle ? That is pretty steep. :(

Anyhow, depending on the merit rating and driver history, insuring a brand new 2010 Prius, 2010 Insight or HCH-II in my area costs me roughly $1,300 CDN /year for "all purpose" use, $2M liability, loss of use, etc and a $500 deductible.
The cost is reduced to $1,100 for a "pleasure rating" (cannot be driven more than 7K miles a year).

Cheers;

The insurance for our HCHII is stupid. As was the 06 Civic EX and Accord.

I'm proud to say our ins. has dropped a tad over the last 2 years over all with more coverage. I let of agent know up front when we bought the 06 Civic I expect a complete review presented to us in person every six months on ins. pricing and over guidance.

I also let the SOB know that I'm not paying a dime more because they failed in the stock market and I will not pay more for there bad planning. The market beat us up also. So they can just darn well suck it up with everybody else. We have perfect driving records, no claims against our home. So we are bank over all and I will pull lawyers in if they think they can screw us. I will make them prove in court why they failed and who they over paid.

The world would be a better place without those scum bags.
