Miami Commissioner Marc Sarnoff took his own advice.
After recently urging Miamians to ''Buy American,'' Sarnoff traded in his foreign car -- a Smart Car -- and bought a new Ford Fusion Hybrid.
He went for the auto after hosting a Buy American, Go Green event June 30 with Ford Motor Co. to encourage residents to look at American automakers and their fuel-efficient cars.
Ford's most fuel-efficient vehicles were shown at the event with demonstrations given.
Sarnoff was impressed then with the Fusion Hybrid.
''Once I got behind the wheel of the Fusion Hybrid at the event, I knew I had to make the switch to Ford,'' he said.
U.S. News & World Report lists it as the top affordable midsize car in the nation.
''The 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid has taken the automotive press by surprise,'' the magazine reported.
``Many reviewers are calling it the best hybrid sedan yet. It holds its own against the Toyota Prius, and in some ways, it may be a better car.''
Last month, President Barack Obama's administration said it would lend $5.9 billion to Ford in a government-industry partnership to build green cars.
