Joined the site after seeing a link from GasBuddy. I've read the original Hypermiling article before, got myself a ScanGuage II and I learned a lot about how my 1999 Ford Ranger and 1997 Toyota RAV4 behave. I was finally able to break the 30 mpg barrier in the RAV4 on a trip to Bloomsburg with 50 pounds of tools and equipment as well as the 150 pound driver. The best I've done in the truck was 25 mpg.

Welcome to CleanMPG! I am up in that area on the weekends - have a house not far from Bear Creek. And there is another CleanMPG member down near Berwick, I believe.

Lots of hills in town, so using them to your advantage will make the most of your commutes in the area.

You're off to a good start, and you have two great vehicles in the garage. With the ScanGage and a review of the Beating the EPA article, you have demonstrated that the techniques are universally effective and easily repeatable.

Don't hesitate to ask questions, and consider keeping a mileage log here so you can track your progress. We're here to help as needed and to offer congrats and kudos as you meet and beat your goals.

Welcome! I'm in Berwick, work in Bloomsburg, and have family (wife's side) in Nanticoke and Wilkes-Barre. Our area can be tough for good FE, but once you figure it out, the hills can work to your advantage instead of against you. Those little SUV's (RAV4, CR-V) can do great things - somebody here broke 40 MPG in a CR-V!
