Tempting to call them just to say they are wrong about the Taylor's not holding that record anymore.

VW is even using that bit in their TV spots.

Notice that they don't mention whether the record is current or not, just that in Sep 08 they set a record.

Ford and Honda both could respond with ads about events by Xcel.

Why do suggest that its desparate? Even if the record has been beat, they are using the marketing to sell a non-FSP!!! If it changes people's behavior, I'm all for it.

Being a business owner (20 yrs tomorrow) I understand marketing to the general public.

It is how it was worded that came across as lookie, lookie here we need your business bad.

A better way of saying it would have been.

Here at XXXXXX VW we have several very fuel efficient TDI's in stock for immediate purchase.
The TDI is the car Mr. and Mrs Taylor (www.fuelacademy.org) set a NEW GUINESS WORLD RECORD of 58.82 MPG in September 2008, for the lowest fuel consumption driving through all 48 states of the USA in 20 days. The TDI is also eligible for a $1,300 tax and sales tax credit.

For more information on the TDI contact any sales agent:

The ad was poorly worded and came across as desperate.

The car is so hard to find they had to place an ad on Craigslist to notify people that they them in stock? That is what AutoTrader and Vehix is for.

I went on line and asked for some price quotes from local VW dealers. The dealer a mile from work sent me a response that after reading I don't even want to waste my time going down there. It came across like we really don't have time for this. Why don't you come down and see us when your ready to buy the car.
