Yesterday I did something that no one else in my home dare doing - drove to downtown Toronto.

On the way there I took arterial roads and completely skipped the highway. I forgot the actual number, but I think I beat my NRCan's city gas mileage of 7.7L/100 by a small margin. Besides the usual light foot and late braking, I had FASed like crazy to only reach that?

Going out of downtown core I drove my friend to Markham, a trip usually costs $5.8 in bus fare. Since I am there with my car anyway, I did him a favor and literally drove him door to door to his mom's restaurant. The leg's tally? 6.7L/100 and $2.79 in gas, yet I got him to pay me the full $5.8 for gas. :D

The whole tank nets me 7.3/100, still 6% UNDER EPA. I must still be doing something wrong. :(

Yeah your driving in Toronto. I gave up driving to Toronto and I take the GoTrain as much as possible. Of course its not always an option. City driving is not that easy to get any kind of good mileage. I pretty much just try to time lights and watch the traffic patterns.

Toronto is a bear with lots of lights, lots of folks darting in and out, and lots of yahoos.

I used to live in Buffalo, and would visit Toronto every once in a while. I thought Buffalo traffic was bad, it was a walk in the park compared to Toronto.
